The Mother. The Scholar. The Legend.
“Their empires and fiefdoms were built from stolen time, stolen care, stolen land, and stolen futures. The task is mass reclamation and transformation: taking back what has been stolen and making it impossible for so few to steal so much again.” Powerful analysis by @mskellymhayes.bsky.social
My latest reprinted in @truthout.org.

"What we need now is something that carries the insurgent spirit of Occupy, but with greater precision: a movement that understands the heist state as a historic redistribution of wealth upward, and organizes to force that transfer into reverse."
Under Trump, Corruption and Governance Have Become Indistinguishable
We need a movement to take back what has been stolen and make it impossible for so few to steal so much again.

coz often people invoke me and my book in online scraps about "where were you when..." and to chastize those newly organizing:

I'm not interested in whataboutism & disparaging ppl. As an organizer, I appreciate ppl are joining, and I hope my work is of service. Stay in the struggle & keep building.

People are right to be incensed, but there are more names to uplift. ICE killed an immigrant man named Silverio Villegas González in Chicagoland. He had children. Victor Manuel Diaz was kidnapped in Minneapolis and died in ICE custody on January 14. Their names deserve to be repeated, too.

That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers.

Reminder that Congress has the power to stop all of this. Where the hell are they?

The aesthetics of ICE—puff-chested and average bro—do more than shroud Trump’s immigration cops in secrecy.

It helps another mission: to make it seem like this is all normal.

Blows my mind that some of the same journalists who see Trump as a want-to-be dictator at home are earnestly discussing the "challenges" for this same man to "bring democracy" to a country it just illegal invaded. Please grow up.

A nice obituary for Alice, who was going to be recognized as one of The Post 50.

I hate that we now have to live without this phenomenal woman.

The battle of our day is no longer about Democrats versus Republicans or left versus right.

The choice right now is democracy or dictatorship. And we're sliding faster than I ever thought possible into the latter.

Everyone must choose which side they’re on. Now.

In cruel irony, UCLA Fowler Museum earlier this week postponed this weekend’s opening events for an exhibition on California Indigenous controlled burning practices in land management and art because of the devastating wildfires in LA. Screenshots from their IG. The wisdom has been there.

California is deeply grateful for President @claudiasheinbaum.bsky.social's support as we work to suppress the Los Angeles wildfires.

Many Latino immigrants in Los Angeles worked to extinguish some of the fires with hoses. They aren't firefighters, they were just helping people in other neighborhoods.
