Goon baiting
Goon-baiting is an interaction between the prisoner and the guard, or an oppressor, whereby the prisoner, aiming to ensure he is not endangered, 'plays mind games, or does actions, to confuse or enrage an oppressor to the point of where he'd lose his composure.'[1] Goon-baiting was a term used in World War II.[1]

So much of this essay had me nodding along, as a disillusioned software professional (who also writes fiction). "I’m finding it harder to care about certain things that used to matter a lot, and others have amassed unexpected significance to me. This is part of getting older, I think."
