(reading this back, it sounds like I'm implying this was why I was laid off. IIRC, this was actually a single Zoom conversation in which I tried to get a raise AND the CEO told me he'd just hired my new boss. They'd already made the decision.)

...this January discussion came on the heels of me arguing for an annual raise by showing him the metrics I'd kept of me doing 49% of the total work I was assisting a dedicated team of 9 other people with.

Most recently, DorkOwl laid off a bunch of people at the end of the year, and in January the CEO told me, a Director, I'd no longer be reporting to him, but to a new Director (titles, what do they mean). Also blatantly obvious, but it took new Director another 8 months to learn my job.

My co-worker Alan was told to move closer to HQ (out of state) or he'd lose his job. He moved. Lucent laid him off 2 weeks after, and then he hung himself.

I still carry his business card 27 years later as a reminder not to trust any of these fucking corporations.

After many rounds of layoffs, Lucent came for my team. I was the first. We were on a rotating 2-graveyard/1 day off/2 daytime shift. Boss called and asked me to come in the morning I was supposed to be on graveyard. It was blatantly obvious. They eventually axed the entire team. The last to go:

Turns out, marginalized people know exactly when they are being condescended to by corporate marketing shills.
