Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.

Waterloo station
Left-luggage lockers
Ev-ery Thursday night

Cheating and lying
Fondling some knockers
He'll pay for this alright
Waterloo station used to have left luggage lockers. On Wednesday lunchtime I used to buy stuff and leave it in a locker, the next day was late night shopping but I'd be meeting my lover, I'd collect the shopping from the locker and arrive home late looking innocent

Goodness! All of my double entendres have come at once.
I messaged the director of my department that I was "almost home and ready to slam in the lamb" with several kisses and my stomach near on fell out of my arse when I realised what had happened. Apologised profusely and all he said was "what time's dinner?"

Told my teenage nieces that my new doctor is so young she diagnosed me as having 'mad rizz'.

Highly recommend. Their looks of confusion, horror and disappointment will sustain me for quite some time.

Occasionally, I'm reminded of my all time favourite piece of internet: this Reddit post from 12 years ago in which a guy claims he ruined dinner with his girlfriend's parents by refusing to admit he knew what a potato was.

Think it's time to reintroduce myself on here. Hello! I'm Gordon. I'm a library person, literary event organiser/host of ten years' experience, and am fond (can you believe) of indiepop music and a good cardigan.

I also write stuff: poems, short fiction & creative essays.

Pleased to meet ya. x

Singer Sargent's paintings of Europe pre/circa WW1 are the best thing I've ever seen in person. The technique is astonishing.
John Singer Sargent spent part of several summers in the early 1900s painting open-air subjects in Italy’s Val d’Aosta. The resulting works reveal his pleasure in the description of brilliant light; here a party of climbers almost seem to merge with the rockface.

Something in the modern book world I despise is the deliberate, upfront declaration of tropes in romance book promotion, such as '...featuring opposites attract and forced proximity'.

This internet-style 'YOU LIKE DAT SO YOU LIKE DIS', narrow-lane, consumer comfort-blanket shtick makes me vomit.

This is an extraordinary painting by an artist I know precisely nothing about.
'In Bed.' (1878) Frederico Zandomeneghi's paintings focus almost exclusively on the theme of women: as mothers, friends or solitary figures engaged in private 'rituals' - subjects which were also of interest to his circle of friends including Edgar Degas and Berthe Morisot.

Steve Cram on the Athletics coverage is steadily becoming a sort of late-period Murray Walker figure, getting names wrong, words wrong, stumbling around in a bit of a dazed grandad fashion.

Diagnosis: cat.
Someone yelled and yelled until they were allowed to go outside in the rain. They then got soaking wet and came back in and yelled about being wet.
