One of my favourite moments from Taronga Zoo Sydney: This beautiful Andean Condor.
She was on the aviary floor when I arrived, but on seeing me she flew up to a perch and started preening right in front of me. All the other park visitors just walked past, but I was smitten.

Quest for secret house continues as my father bought a ladle to heat oil over the stove in because I won't let him use my measuring cups to do it in. Not sure we ever convinced him you don't put out oil fires with water either... 🤦🏻‍♀️
He's simply determined that's the best way to do it. 🤷‍♀️

A few places on this beautiful planet that made me feel (and look) small.

Possibly a red-spotted purple (?)
A butterfly stopped to seek minerals on our driveway. It has iridescent wings that are purple with red dots at the tip, and then fades in a gradient to dark blue and then teal and ends almost white at the base of the bottom wings. It has a black body and the wings are edged in stripes

A Greater Yellowlegs lands in a very shallow marsh. The water is very calm so there is a reflection, and the yellowlegs looks like it’s running with its one leg up and its wings out for balance. The water is green and yellow as it reflects the colour of the early Fall reeds on the shore.

This was my last proper nightscape from way back in July 2024, I did do a half interested one in October with comet A3 tsuchinshan-atlas but only in the back paddock as a single shot opposed to stacked

The other day I was cutting trimmed branches in the yard when 2 squirrels chased each other down the tree trunk - suddenly they realized a human was there and they froze for a minute staring at me. I guess they decided I wasn’t to be trusted since I had clippers. Anyway, that’s what inspired this.

Worried about my poor Nermal. She seems to be breathing a bit heavily and moving back and forth slightly. Google was doom and gloom. As a 6 yo Orpington, I suppose she's not young anymore, and quite a large bird. Didn't have as many stories as usual today either. :/

Seemed okay on Saturday.
3 chickens on the lawn but the light gray one closest to the viewer is Nermal.

I got a Gopro just before my last summer trip to Churchill. I'm still figuring it out, but I did manage to capture some footage of these juvenile belugas trailing behind our zodiac the other day. They're very curious and like the bubbles from the idling (and prop-guard protected) motor.

The Blue Jays have finished their summer moult and their feathers are all fresh and gorgeous!
This Blue Jay decided to fly down to the creek for a drink and made sure we got a really good look at all those blues on its back and tail!
