Old guy in Arizona living in opposition to the religious and political beliefs of most of my neighbors. I'm a veteran, a Disney nut (DVC owner) and sports fanatic. Go DBacks, AZCards and Suns! And, for other reasons: San Diego FC.
Yes you do.

He didn’t behave well, but it’s a personal issue. If Torey can accept it, so can we.

Oh, and he’s pretty spectacular tonight.

Gloria Steinem’s Final Essay — The New Yorker
When you’re lucky enough to have lived a long life, as I have done, your role is to remind us how far we have come.

I see the phrase "most of us," but anyone who simply decides not to vote because they don't care about politics is part of the problem. You didn't vote for Trump? Good. You didn't vote for Harris either? The net effect is that you voted for both of them. And until those people care, we are to blame.

In ‘85 on the Kitty Hawk in the Indian Ocean, this happened 3 times. All 3 were rescued. Those guys are good at what they do. But the captain took to the CCTV to tell us how much trouble we’d be in if we tried the same thing. His valid concern was the people responsible for rescuing the jumper.

Former sailor here. Attempts happened regularly. We spent 4 months roaming the Indian Ocean in the mid-80s. They always punished people for it. Jumping off that ship puts personnel at risk. Helicopters are scrambled. Divers have to retrieve you. Unfortunately, this is an every administration thing.

…I’m okay with that. Maybe it’ll raise the ire of people passionate about the evils of AI. I welcome your opposing viewpoint (please keep it civil). But thank you to Mr. Gruber for posting the article. It made me think.

…If they tell me they don’t care about my thoughts on a subject, and go to the effort of blocking everyone from seeing my opinions on it, why should I care about their thoughts on it?

5. I was struck by a comment in the article about the turning off of replies to a post. I’m fundamentally opposed to that. People can be toxic, and I’m all for blocking toxic people. But when I come across people who block replies, I tend to use the ignore feature on their accounts…

…Data centers, as a condition of their creation, should be required to supply their own electricity. And it should be limited to methods that do not generally pollute. Emphasize the true green ones: solar and wind. But also allow for nuclear If more is needed.

…The two main complaints about data centers are water and electricity. Water issues should be solved by mandating closed systems for cooling. And while that drastically lowers water consumption, it increases electricity usage. But that issue is also political to me…

…I’ve been able to work on that process, but have not yet taught it to do it efficiently enough and with enough trust that it wouldn’t make mistakes. But the day it can is not far off.

3. I love what I do with AI. I’m old (60+), and I’ve trained AI to operate the web-based apps we use on my job to automatically update schedules, daily reports and weekly summaries. I actively look forward to the day when AI can reliably enter my incoming bills into my accounting software…

2. Other social media platforms don’t thrill me either. The ones owned by Meta look like data farms to me, so I won’t use them. In my life I’ve had Facebook, Instagram and Threads accounts, but I simply don’t trust them. I use YouTube on a limited basis but have no use for TikTok.

1. There is nothing that would result in me deciding to use the X platform. I mean, that’s not true. Being purchased by someone who isn’t fascist and changing the name back to Twitter would probably draw me in, but that seems unlikely. I’d rather withdraw from social media than use them.

They fell asleep again. Cardinals have the ball. It’s still blue.

Quality help is hard to find.
August 23, 2026 at 2:40 AM
Yeah. Stopping the Reds from scoring would be awesome as well.

Fallback rationalization: no matter the score, we can only lose once tonight.
August 23, 2026 at 2:35 AM
Okay, they did intend to make the down and distance match the team with the ball. Somebody just forgot to make it blue the first time the Cowboys had the ball. So the plan was right, they just made a mistake and corrected it mid game.

I still don’t like where the arrow points.

And here’s the thing. The Reds are continuing to keep their lead (most of it), but even at 9-4, I’m not ready to give up. I realize time’s running out, but I seriously see an explosion coming at the bottom of the inning.
