It’s been a rough week full of painful anniversaries so capping it off today - today I have been unemployed for one year.

I'm the perfect example of how you can try your best, do all the right things, and still have this society completely fail them.

I'm having a very heavy post-adventure-back-to-the-real-world sad.

Small positive - I've got an iced pumpkin drink in hand, the Vikings and Ravens are playing a preseason game the local channel is carrying, and it's not ungodly hot. WELCOME FALL!!!

Part of the reason a lot of super rich people are so awful is that when normal people get an absurd amount of money, they immediately start looking around for who they can help.
Rachel Reid, who wrote the popular “Heated Rivalry” novel, has donated $300k to Annapolis Valley Regional Library, “one of the most significant private gifts” in their history.

“I credit my local library for being a huge part of the reason I’m a published author today,” Reid said

I needed two cans of creamed condensed soup for an easy casserole-like meal. I bought the STORE BRAND and they were $1.79 each. EACH. I should be able to get at least two cans for that one price. ONE DOLLAR AND SEVENTY-NINE CENTS FOR ONE CAN OF STORE BRAND CONDENSED SOUP.

In Star Trek people often complain that replicated food is not as good as naturally produced food, which is weird when replicators are presumably using the same technology as transporters, which can perfectly replicate Spock every time. But is Spock getting less flavoursome over time? In this essay,

I'm serious - can I please win the powerball lottery tonight?

At this moment, one year ago, I was laid off and told Sept 12 would be my last day of work.

I bought a lottery ticket. That's where I am right now. It's my dearest wish right now that I win.

I didn't get the job. Again.

One of the only things keeping me going right now is seeing my hummingbirds come out as soon as I've refreshed the nectar and the bluejays coming for the peanuts I put out especially for them.

I didn't hear back from the recruiter who said I'd have an update about the job today. Now this is hanging over me all weekend. I know I shouldn't let it keep me from enjoying things, but that's not where my brain chemistry is right now. I'm just in survival mode.

I am feeling so hopeless right now. I was told I'd hear back today about the job. There's still a few more hours in the working day, but as I've emptied my entire cash nest egg, I'm just sitting here trying not to panic. We went to 3 different pharmacies yesterday just to get the best deals on meds.

Rewatching X-Files: I Want to Believe in prep for the director's cut release next week that will supposedly fix this movie. I've seen this a couple times and still don't remember anything about it other than I don't like it. I think I purposefully block it out.

The emotional pain and anxiety are now causing physical pain. I thought I'd hear back about scheduling at least one interview today and it didn't happen. I feel like throwing up.
June 29, 2026 at 9:29 PM
When you have 3 potential interviews and you're just sitting here, waiting for the phone to ring, checking emails, checking texts, checking LinkedIn for any signs of scheduling them. My anxiety is through the roof.

Feeling pretty hopeless today. I had the energy to feed the birds and do dishes and that's it. House is a mess. Haven't cleaned the bathroom since Sadie died. I really don't see how me being here does anything positive.

I just wanted to buy an umbrella for my back yard. And for some reason (money probably), it seems impossible to get one that already has a base. Not to attach to a table. Not to put in the sand. Just an umbrella that stands on its own. I instead opted for a tent I could sit in. #thankscapitalism
