Small update: First, we're still waiting on Google to finish its review of our Android open beta test which has been holding us back since September 13th. Once it's approved we'll be able to update the app for anyone on iOS or Android to fix a number of known bugs and share new features.

Currently, Maple Maps is only available in Canada with maps of Canada. Should we open it up for our American friends to use too?

Wow! I hadn't checked in a couple days but we're up to nearly 4000 people who've expressed interest in joining our Beta which is humbling and overwhelming!

Sorry to anyone who experienced some slowness or freezing while using maps this afternoon/evening. Turns out that building and running a national mapping service and adding on live transit data takes some beefier hardware than what we initially set up.

Hey again! Late night update:
Today has been all about refinement. We started the day by announcing we've added a lot of new address data to our own database. Throughout today we've been working on cleaning that data against our other sources to remove duplicates.

DEV UPDATE: We've just managed to incorporate a ton of new address data and fine tune how search results are showing up. In addition, search results should come quicker and the closed roads/traffic should be more reliable.

As part of Maple Maps' focus on promoting Canadian businesses with a special focus on local business I'd like to try and make a daily post about another Canadian company that needs our support. Yesterday I shared a video from eSupply Canada, a Canadian Indigenous owned office supply company.
Running out of midnight oil to burn! Got a bit overexcited and pushed out new build this evening without stress testing it fully. Then we pushed out a new build quickly thinking it fixed the issue but it didn't. Didn't want to leave anyone hanging so we're pushing out one last build tonight.

A lot of exciting updates coming out in the new build (hopefully out later today):
- Completely new maps. We are now only using TomTom to supply traffic data!
- New maps means we also have improved bike routing
- New voices for navigation that sound like humans
- Icons on the screen can be tapped

Another dev update: We've made a ton of progress today towards bringing almost the entirety of our back end mapping in-house. What this means is that our core version of Maple Maps will truly hold all its mapping data on servers run in Canada.

Development Update: There are some things that, as a tiny company, we just can't do without using the back end of a larger company. In our case, that is traffic and satellite imagery which require a lot of resources and a large user base to provide useful data.

For some reason our back end map provider didn’t auto refill our balance when it hit our threshold so some people are reporting getting an error.
Things should be back up and running shortly if it isn’t already.
