I had a few thoughts on the results of last years Dotterel survey that I was going to make but then realised the one glaring omission, when are Dotterel predicted to be extinct as a breeding bird in Scotland?

Some years ago (1993-94) I was lucky enough to spend 2 summers surveying Dotterel in the Scottish Highland (pic under licence, tent in distance!), special birds, females can lay >1 clutch for diff males (polyandry), males provide all parental care. Sad to think of mountain plateaux without them:-(

Really hoping this turns out to be Coleophora wockeella. This is in France though. Don’t think it’s been recorded in the UK for a while. Another new species to me.

Until September 2024 this species was believed to be extinct in the UK. An adult moth was trapped at Stoke Holy Cross (Dave Jones, 02/09/24) Further studies in the area have revealed larval feeding signs and recently larvae on Hoary Mullein.
