Sam Altman said people are just gonna have to die in order to implement AI. In the very same week, Anthropic claimed it’s a human rights violation to be mean to the computer. These people need to be held accountable. They think lines of code are a person with rights but living people are debris.
Over the past year, Anthropic has repeatedly flirted with the idea that its AI models could be conscious in some way. In February, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on a podcast, “We don’t know if the models are conscious.”

The usage policy update also adds new rules addressing propaganda campaigns, surveillance, and weapon development.

Not sure why anyone bothers with anti-AI activism when the most effective strategy would be to just point as many microphones as possible to its most vocal champions.

Public decorum has just completely collapsed hasn't it? I am currently sitting in a cafe, and two women are next to me holding a phone call on speaker phone at full volume.

I don't want to hear your conversation. Stop polluting the public realm with selfishness.

The world feels like an overwhelmingly depressing place right now. AI doom narratives, runaway climate change, and wars threatening to reach a nuclear threshold.

Please stop the planet, I want to get off.

this is perhaps the most useful thing that LLMs and GenAI have done: to provoke people into articulating (over again) that even the 'hardest' of 'hard sciences' are human endeavours, with human meaning, and concerned with human understanding of the significance of the world we all inhabit
“Mathematics only makes sense as a gift economy. It has no trade secrets. Substituting a monetizable ersatz culture for the one evolved through historical experience is a particularly insidious form of knowledge collapse.”

Mathematician Michael Harris on the AI companies coming for math:
Knowledge Collapse
AI companies are racing to mechanize mathematics. Where does that leave human understanding?

When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this.

Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.

Think this will remain one of the all time "The haters said we couldn't do it, and turns out they were right. Great call from the haters" stories of all time.
I visited Meta's metaverse on the day it was supposed to shut down.

I ended up in a virtual reality off-brand McDonald's car park – "a horribly designed, ultra-capitalistic space—a car park with no cars, for a restaurant that can sell no food, an earthly purgatory we have built for ourselves".
