Zombie mode is getting, um, an "upgrade". Robots, stars, and butterflies are coming.

Definitely going to be harder. Still have to do a few game play tweaks for balance and fix some UI bugs. Should be ready for Saturday!

You can also play HexSum in Standard mode. It's an easier version of Maze mode. In Standard mode, you have to use all the hexes exactly once by find paths that add to the target value [10].

If you want adversarial, but not the frantic speed, you can engage in a battle of wits against the CPU.

If you want speed, check out Zombies mode. Stop the horde of Zombies from getting to the center. Sum to 20. Real-time play. The rainbow hexes are magical, activate them all! Fill up the heart meter for additional defense.

And if the Maze gives you trouble, Blocks mode is a different challenge. I haven't tried today's yet, but if you want a strategy, I scroll through all the cards and see if there is a single *type* of Block that is placeable.

Guess what? The new weekend modes are out! The Maze is now larger! Have fun with this, it's definitely a real challenge! The previous Maze mode was on a radius 2 board and players found it too easy.

What's also nice, is that if you have a Smart Board or a projector, it's a great collaborative classroom activity. Here's us doing this in Kindergarten. Wouldn't you know, HexSum became a regular request for practicing our tens facts.

You can use this as a pen and paper activity with a pdf download to print or email.

This is a calm activity and students can do this at their leisure. I'd think of this as another resource at your disposal. You can choose other target sums, too, not just 10.

One suggestion is to use it as a scavenger hunt. Can you find pairs of hexagons next to each other that add to ten? It doesn't matter if students "solve" the board. They are getting a taste of success by finding any solution.

Let's say you are focusing on just pairs that add to 10. As a teacher you can just mark off paths that are two long, like this image [one image is partially complete, the other is an example of fully complete]
