And this is why abandoning trans people is politically stupid. It doesn’t matter what you say, they’ll still try to use it against you. Instead of throwing trans people under the bus, try changing the narrative.

The death penalty is immoral, period. This is inexcusable and inhumane.
Nashville Banner reporter Steven Hale, describing how prison officials kept drawing the curtain to hide how badly they were botching this:

“A lot of this execution — or attempted execution, whatever it was — happened when we could not see what was going on.”

Providing chairs when job duties don’t really require standing is a textbook example of a reasonable accommodation.

Taking away chairs, thereby forcing disabled workers to put in formal requests to aggressively hostile employer, can be a pretty effective way of pushing people out of their jobs.
“The Transportation Security Administration says it's taking away chairs at airport checkpoints nationwide and that TSA officers who check passengers' IDs must stand, saying the move is designed to help officers remain alert.”
TSA officers told to stand, chairs banned at airport checkpoints nationwide
"This welcome change reinforces both our security posture and our commitment to hospitality by having these officers on their feet and alert," a TSA spokesperson said.

Ignoring for the moment that he got the basketball game and city wrong, his evidence for some sort of collusion between Smith and Willis is that they both were in Atlanta on the same day? That's quite the logical leap.

When they get back in power, Democrats need to go all-in on higher education.

We need a campaign of reinvestment in public universities across the country that makes the Morrill Land-Grant Act look like nothing by comparison *and* a GI Bill of Rights-style program of tuition grants.
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/kQdKbY1

The lesbian bar story is mean and small-minded and a lot of the people laughing about it have never done any kind of organizing in their lives.

BUT it is a very good story about how communities get hijacked by bad-faith actors who are enabled by leadership that doesn't want to upset anybody.

Great photo from NYT’s Doug Mills appears to show authoritarian Xi Jinpeng gesturing toward the WH wall where Joe Biden is depicted as an autopen. Xi’s expression, to me, says “even I couldn’t get away with this shit”

Uncertanity is driving most of this. It's pretty simple - the economy is shaky right now, the federal budgets are unknown, research funds are being messed with, state budgets are real stressed generally, international student enrollments... yea, and who knows what enrollment will truly look like?

Does anyone know the source of his "5 times more people on Obamacare in Florida than live in Florida" claim? It's obviously false, but I suspect there's a statistic he's twisting rather than outright lying.
Dr Oz: "There are 5 times more people in parts of Obamacare in Florida than live in the state. It's impossible More than a third of people on Obamacare have never used the insurance policy once. If you were gonna pay your hard-earned money to buy insurance, would you ever use it? The answer is yes"

If there is any fraud happening here, it would have to be at the insurance company level, right? The only way this makes sense as fraud is if you have an insurance company registering fake people on ACA marketplace, so they get to pocket the subsidies from the government. Right?
