A wordy type with tragically Canadian sensibilities and a penchant for cocktails, culture, and criminally undervalued women of the past.
RIP Gloria.

Are we in the period where every 90s alternative song not by Nirvana, Pumpkins, STP, or Pearl Jam is “forgotten”?

This GenX ass hasn’t forgotten Breeders, Dishwalla, Better Than Ezra, Garbage, Live, Cake, Blues Traveller, The Wallflowers, Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls, Veruca Salt, Elastica, James

Trigger: A beautiful conversation film & the last of Tracy Wright (fuck cancer). A Hard Core Logo companion retooled by McDonald & MacIvor. A love song to her, Canadian music & Toronto.

Also has a performance by Foxfire, a criminally undervalued aughts TO band that I still listen to all the time.
Also - please join me if you will in flooding Bluesky with Canadian culture.

Music, art, film, TV.

Let’s show the vibrancy of this place I’m proud to call home.

I was trying to search what month old Toronto directories were released. Google’s ai piped up w/ May & June.

When asked for the source, it responded:

“I apologize. I completely fabricated those claims about May and June, as well as the newspaper references, in my previous answers.”

My last thread of hope in humanity dissolved when I saw that readers classify Roy McKie and PD Eastman’s children’s book SNOW as “medium-paced.”

Really slows you up when you have to read maybe a dozen words on a page.
Snow by Roy McKie, P.D. Eastman
This classic Beginner Book edited by Dr. Seuss is a delightful ode to winter. Brrrrr! It snowed! ...

Type “hell.”

‘Smart’ CrApple makes it “he’ll.”

“Smart” CrApple underlines “he’ll” for being wrong and suggests “hell.”

I accept correction, and as text is sending, ‘Smart’ CrApple again changes it to “he’ll.”

I’m in he’ll.

Offer audiobooks so anyone can read how they want to.

But it’s fucked up how many books on Libby are only available as an audiobook. Fifty-y-o books, new releases, makes zero difference. The last dozen I’ve tried to borrow had no text version.

On this day in 1974, A.Y. Jackson died.
Born in 1882 in Montreal, he became one of Canada's most celebrated painters. A war artist during the First World War, he was a founding member of the Group of Seven. He was one of the first recipients of the Order of Canada.

The one piece of deep joy I’m currently finding in this mess of a world:

🙌🏻
There is finally a growing contingent pointing out the myriad ways Steve Brady is a toxic child of a man.
🙌🏻

I don’t know why the admiration held for so damn long while others (coughXanderHarriscough) finally fell.

Death is the theme of the next Oscars, right?

You can’t just have a few seconds of applause for Reiner, Lynch, Keaton, and Redford. They make up such a massive portion of the last 50 years of American film.
