Throwback from January 2017 - sadly, still true
#obamaappreciationday
I guess this week is dedicated to losing people born in 1946?

What stage of capitalism is this?
The dam-breaking stage?
The scales-falling-from-eyes stage?
Or just the s**t-costs-too-much stage?

Odd expression from a guy who has never personally experienced “fruit” or “labor” his entire life

Cristiano Ronaldo is the Tom Cruise of professional football - good looking, super-talented performer; tremendous success (without quite taking the big prize); widely respected and admired, generates a “love him or hate him” response from fans around the world.

Should we be rooting for him?

Who at FIFA decided we would all suddenly start pronouncing it “Tur-kee-yay”?

Happy to call any country by its proper name/pronunciation, but why aren’t we also saying “España” or “Deutschland”?

“Mewling sycophants” 👍
Has the WHCD ever been held in a government venue? Would it suddenly be held in one if Trump's Tacky Tavern gets built? Or are all these mewling sycophants just full of shit and desperate for Donnie Demento to notice them?

Anyone else think Iran is going to wait until after the midterms to try to arrange an end to the war, as a fun way of telling Trump to F off?

Kinda like they waited until Reagan took office to release the hostages in 1980?

They must love watching this tired old man casting about for allies!

It’s like the Access Hollywood video was the Rosetta Stone for everyone to understand this ogre, and instead we said “nah, let’s see what he can do”

“When someone shows you who they are,” etc. etc.
Trump: Chicago should call and say we would like help. New York should call. Los Angeles should call… We are going to have to force ourselves upon them.

Guns and butter but the butter is health care
Some House GOP leaders now trying to jump start a second reconciliation bill that would pair spending cuts - like further #Medicaid and ACA Marketplace cuts - with war funding. www.axios.com/2026/03/19/p...
House GOP welcomes $200B Pentagon request to jump-start reconciliation 2.0
Expect to hear lots of talk about "offsets" from fiscal hawks.

Like they used to (kind of) say, “It’s better for me to look good, than for any of you to ever feel good”
March 12, 2026 at 6:13 PM
Not the top priority right now, but can we stop calling it the “ big beautiful bill”?

We’re not required to call it by its literal name - they’ve been derisively calling the Affordable Care Act “Obamacare” for years!

Call it “the SO-CALLED ‘big beautiful bill’.” Or better yet, “the big ugly bill”

Just another way for these harmful idiots to “stand athwart history, yelling ‘stop’” - for guys that revere the market they spend a lot of time trying to tell the market what to do
This is similar to how Republicans insist that “selling health insurance across state lines” is the solution to high healthcare costs, but the ACA *already* allows this yet not a single insurance carrier is interested because it doesn’t make any sense from either their *or* the enrollees POV.
Republicans forced the Bureau of Land Management to put over 20,000 acres of public land in Colorado up for auction at the discount price of $10/acre with reduced royalty rates for oil and gas drilling.

No one bid for it because demand for oil is crashing though. 🔌💡

We need 8-10 Republicans in the House to resign - those who know they are going to lose in November, just resign now and let the Democrats start impeachment proceedings.

We need to send a strong signal to the sane world - we are not going to let this madman continue unabated. November is too late!

I think this is good news?

A judge is negating the negation of an activist who works to negate negative information?

So I have that right?

As the hits just keep on coming for public health, I wanted to share (with permission) something that my friend @jimalwine.bsky.social, an internationally-recognized virologist, said about what motivates him.

Let’s talk about this:

ACA subsidies enabled me (young-ish boomer) to access insurance away from a job, so I could ramp down (part-time, then early retirement), opening up job opps for next generation

No subsidies? We’re back to a sclerotic labor market, folks keeping jobs just for the insurance

“corporations pay a great deal less in tax than the benefit they get, and the burden they impose on the infrastructure they rely on.”

So true! @pamkeithdc.bsky.social
NOT working for two reasons: 1) the wealthy are not taxed enough, and 2) corporations pay a great deal less in tax than the benefit they get, and the burden they impose on the infrastructure they rely on.

THAT’S why!!

You knew as soon as the first crack appeared, the dam would burst open - here comes the “I never really supported him” crowd - it’s a multi-dimensional prisoners’ dilemma - the first to distance themselves (MTG) have the best chance to get away clean (“they can’t send us all to The Hague, right?”)
