This election is not about democracy
Comment: Real democracy is about participation and the equitable exercise of power. The major forces shaping our lives are at the global technology level, writes Rob Campbell.

Kia ora! I got a call from Curia Research this week, and I thought the polling script would be of interest. As is customary, it appears to reflect a mix of public and private polling purposes. Some questions seem targeted for potential campaign rhetoric and one is just strange. Here we go, then ...

The whole company should have been shut down for what they did and the people who run it should be stripped of their flash homes and cars and given 50 years community service picking plastic out of the sea.
So while authors and publishers are arguing about divvying up the settlement money, Anthropic have got away with mass theft. Whatever they pay out is simply a cost of business. The shit machine they built with that theft still exists despite a complete lack of consent and blatant law-breaking.

At the moment we have no real idea how to scale up carbon removal--it's a hair on the mole of the ugly backside of the global hydrocarbon industry

But we do know how to scale up solar panels and wind turbines and batteries. So that's our job

A lot of “admin errors” depriving people of basic needs under this government. Are they trying to get rid of us so they can turn Aotearoa into Silicon Valley’s Mafia HQ? Guess they need lots of land for data centres and bunkers and us bottom feeders might get in the way.

Every time I think I could not appreciate Paula Penfold more, something like this happens - the whole article is *chef’s kiss*.

This is what holding candidates to account for the things they say while very clearly posting as a political party candidate looks like - thank you Paula for this mahi.
I asked Elizabeth Mundt for an interview.

She did not respond.

Instead, she put a video on Facebook describing me as the "lady" who did the Fire and Fury documentary and that I am "probably not the person" she wanted interviewing her about abortion.
A political candidate says a topic has ‘haunted’ her for years. We fact check her claims

TOP‘s big donor this time has also donated heavily to National and ACT in other elections campaigns.

He’s on the TOP board.

The board can override caucus decisions.

Convenient.

Means voting TOP would ensure a National/ACT government.
That’s why TOP will not say which party it would go with

This is (relatively) good news. Brazilian President Lula’s pledge to protect the Amazon appears to have paid off. In 2025 the smallest amount was burned in 40 years. It’s still a tragedy that any of it is getting burned, but this is real progress.

If I even whisper something about being Jewish, I have people screaming at me about Israel (a country I have never even visited). But a gov employee talking about Jesus Christ on the job as the Christian Nationalists who run the US bomb Iran in a religious war? That's just life in America.
Could have made the exact same speech minus the words “Jesus Christ” and it would have been a warm expression of humanity’s interconnectedness and how we should care for each other, but that wouldn’t have reminded the non-Christians that we are less than.

This coalition of cruelty has made sure every policy creates more homeless people so they could lock them up. They got rid of thousands of jobs, underfunded public support systems, no tenants rights, sold public housing, all to benefit the wealthy. Next on the Project25 list is privatising jails.
Government announces homeless move-on orders - for all town centres, not just Auckland
Police can move on rough sleepers or people displaying disorderly behaviour as young as 14-years-old.
