Instead of calling the work of nearly all of children's authors and illustrators (for whom he is the ambassador) "crud," Mac Barnett could be mobilizing the world of children's literature to speak out against the national book-banning bill, HR 7661.

If you're a book creator and you're mad about our latest scandal du jour I encourage you to channel that energy into:

1. Calling your reps (house) and demanding they vote no on HRs 7661 and 2616
2. Volunteering with AABB. We NEED more people. We NEED this energy.

TLDR: Touch grass, call your reps

Another point to show that most people do not want book bans. The outrage (as usual) is manufactured.
Earlier this week, the ALA released their 2025 Most Challenged Books Report. Thought top books are the headline, this is the data point that stands out to me, "92 percent of all book challenges were initiated by pressure groups, government officials and decision makers" not parents or teachers.

State of America’s Libraries Report reveals 4,235 unique titles challenged in 2025, marking the second-highest total on record

NOT YET.

I remember kicking myself last year when I found out about PB Party too late. I made a vow to myself that I will definitely participate in 2026.

In 2025 I thought I was ready and now I realize I have much to learn.

So it's not NEVER. It's not a "No thanks, I'm moving on", it's Not Yet.
