I continue to think that being “too big to fail” is **exactly** their plan for how to navigate the coming crash, and it’s why they’re pushing so hard to get everybody using pricy commercial AI products all the time for everything, even in cases where there is a clear downside (ie, education)
Krishnan is asking a good question about New Yorkers having retirement funds tied up with "A.i." and if there's a crash what the fuck happens.

"How can you ensure that you are not too big to fail?"

Companies are just blathering and dodging. Talking about their tools, etc.

there are moral arguments against the death penalty in its ideal form but in real life you never need to get there. the prior question is "can the state be trusted to end the life only of the rightly convicted without torture?" and the answer is no
two doses of lethal drugs and still alive. heartbreaking and barbaric

The tortuous, botched execution of Christa Pike is truly horrifying. And while it feels unique in some ways, in reality it is also only the latest in a history of botched executions going back years — YEARS — in numerous states. Please know: this is the reality of the death penalty in this country.

I believe fraternity hazing and military hazing and sports team hazing where men abuse each other is acclimating them into a broader culture of abuse where they will then believe it is their right to abuse other more vulnerable people. It’s so insidious. And that’s also why I think men defend it

In 2014, I interviewed a Columbia University student who went from class to class carrying the mattress she was raped on—a protest performance piece to remind college administrators what they put on her shoulders.

Twelve years later, we still expect women on college campuses to carry that weight.

and please don't take time out of your day to message me "not all men are like that!!!!! :)" fuck you.
i hope that men notice how whenever a rape story gets widespread coverage, women use it as an opportunity to vent about how fucking disgusting we think many of you are and how many have made our lives measurably worse, and take a few moments to deeply process that.

This is quite cool. My university is the first organisation in the world to force Microsoft to allow us to turn off copilot summaries in Word 365, after a backlash against it from staff (including, very vocally, me). That cannot have been easy for our heroic IT people so hats very much off to them!

Today I saw the new 4 hour documentary Musk, directed by Alex Gibney. There were too many times to count that a sold out theater burst out laughing at Elon Musk, something he said or did, even sometimes just how he looked. I believe that is his worst nightmare come to life.

In the words of one cardiologist: “it’s bots fighting bots, agents fighting agents, a horrible dystopic future nobody wants to live in.”
