Currently on TikTok some people believe that the reason that the execution didn’t work is because the prisoner had killed in Satan’s name and therefore gained immortality thus kicking off the end times (again). Which is guess is better(?) than having to deal with the fact that America is cruel.

I feel like “learn a trade” is the new version of “learn to code” where it is held up as the easy path to big money. But not everyone can code, and even people who learn will not necessarily have a huge career.
It also is a career with a lot of injuries.

Apparently the Heated Rival fandom is furious because the author of the books said she didn’t write a scene of one character coming out to his team because it “wasn’t necessary”.

There are people in this world whose entire sense of purpose is to jump in replies and tell people to harm themselves. Most people would find this sad, but as someone who grew up in a fucked ip family I find it warmly nostalgic.

Nothing has made me more aware of how “not normal” my brain is than when I’m listening to people talking about how AI has helped them in their lives.
This is not a diss. I am very happy AI has helped you manage your calendar or come up with dinner ideas. Not for me.

People are assuming that this person is a troll. They aren’t. They exist and I am sure that stories will be coming out from people who have interacted with them IRL (they were involved with the DSA in Denver IIRC, before they quit and started picketing the DSA).

Sometimes I am by myself in my house and nothing is wrong but there’s just this weird emptiness in my chest and this deep longing for something I can’t name and it’s like…why?

The COVID-19 Pandemic was, pretty much, an actual world ending event and...it was not cool or exciting and was pretty boring with moments of tragedy when we'd lose someone.
There have always been humans who thought:
1) The world will end soon
2) It will happen in a cool, exciting way
3) It’ll happen to me personally
4) I’ll be a martyred prophet, or a warlord, or otherwise special
5) People who don’t see this are lesser

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

I just learned that Warren Sapp has become a first amendment auditor and nobody in my real life knows about football AND weird internet subcultures so I have come to bluesky with this info.

I’m in a Facebook group for sharing junk journal stuff and it has a “no AI” rule and at least once a day someone posts something they made with AI and it gets deleted and then they post complaining about how unfair it is for people to delete their AI art they just wanted to share.

It's telling that nobody involved is even pretending to defend this on policy grounds. There's not even a facade, a patina, of policy rationale. Just brute power politics.
