Short fiction writer & poet. Feminist. Socialist. Northern England.
A digital notice on a method of paying fares, shown on Leeds buses (and elsewhere?) for a while, but it still makes me inwardly chuckle. Do PR creators speak our language?

Coming thick and fast in the garden, they do well year after year. And this is how RLS cheer themselves, and others, up 😀

'The King's Mother' by @anniegarthwaite.bsky.social
Having missed out on 1066-1485 history at school, I had to persevere initially with this novel: dense at first, with an extensive character list, & family tree, I then got absorbed by the writing. Recommended.

Ken Loach, in today's @theguardian.com cuts to the chase in summarising the Labour Party's current supposed leadership challenges. And compares it to Spanish civil war splits on the left.

A morning at RSPB Fairburn Ings, near Leeds, on a walk led by volunteers Graham & Joe, leaning how to ID various birdsongs including warblers, coots, bitterns (beyond my hearing). Wish my retention was better!

After a missed walk in Skipton down to rail failures, I took a short local walk - see photo. That horse unnerved me by following me, almost nudging me in the back. Managed to shut the gate on it, but fell down as a result!

Rewarded by an exciting TV snooker match tonight 🙂.

As well as writing short fiction I've long been a reader. A new author to me. This story's beginning seemed so topical, plus I thought it a great start to a story, to draw you in. More good stuff from Comma Press.

Some sunny views on a Golden Acre Park walk today in Leeds, northern England. I wish the rest of the world was like this. Messages of support & sympathy where it isn't. e.g. Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, Myanmar, etc

Very excited to report that a friend and I saw a starling murmuration at RSPB Fairburn Ings this afternoon. Guided by two RSPB experts. In pouring rain. Well worth it.

Lovely, foggy Skipton. Great for another walk. And engaging with a BBC Look North (Yorkshire) vox pop, bigging up Skipton 😀. So my moment of fame - I might be on tonight 6.30-7 pm.
