Here's a recently finished watercolor painting of a mechanitis polymnia! The reference was from a cellphone photo I took at the Detroit Zoo's butterfly gardens.

#watercolor #art #butterfly
A watercolor painting of a mechanitis polymnia butterfly. The butterfly is black, orange, and yellow and is sitting on a green leaf. The background is left blank. The artist's paintbrush is sitting on top of the artwork.

Mid Century Modern tableware and where I think it would stand on trans issues, a thread
A Mid Century Modern ad for tableware, quirky hanging laps, weird wood paneled kitchen bar, oh yeah it's MCM as hell up in here (kinda love it)

Aaaaaaand this is why I carry my high-zoom birding camera everywhere I go in the spring.

So when the Ornithology Club students find an American Woodcock in a green space on campus, I can run from my house and get the best woodcock photos I've ever taken.

Prepare yourself, I took HUNDREDS

🪶

1/?
A very strange forest-associated shorebird known as the American Woodcock. It is round with an egg-shaped head and a long beak, almost as long as it is tall, which is uses to dig worms out of the soil and leaf litter. Its eye is dark brown and set in a weird spot on its head, so it can see behind it and above it better than on front of it. It is mostly beige but covered in beautiful rich browns and grays in a chaotic pattern that helps it blend in with the leaf litter. It is blending in well in the leaf litter, but in front of some daffodil leaves that help it stand out against the backdrop.

It disavowed the New York Times reporting.

A viral dog rescue from 2016 is now immortalized with a statue in Kazakhstan. When a dog fell into the Sayran reservoir, bystanders formed a human chain to pull him to safety. The statue is a reminder of the value of unity, solidarity and collective action. 14/10 for all

Work in progress. I finished the wings almost a year ago, but life got in the way and I never finished.
A view of my art desk, upon which you can see various items in the background including a question block with 1-up mushroom, a rainbow caterpillar and a gold apple. The camera is focused on the end of an idle camera arm, where hanging are a few sets of butterfly wing earrings, with a matching glass bead hanging above the wing and below the earring wire.

I saw the #MonochromeMarch hashtag and thought it would be fun to do a painting! This painting is of a banded alder borer and was done in gouache on 12"x9" mixed media paper only using the color black. It was a very fun painting to do!

This weekend I finished this watercolor painting of an alpaca that I met at a local farm.

#art #watercolor #alpaca #nature #fuzzy
A watercolor painting of an alpaca. The head of the alpaca is visible above and to the right of a wooden fence, with a bit of wire fencing visible below the chin of the animal. It is predominantly white with a little warm brown showing in places. The background is abstracted and blurred out but in shades of blue, green, and brown.

"It's very rare, and the only people who should be concerned with it are those directly involved: the parents, the team, the sport's governing org. Otherwise, its nobody's business but theirs."
