At risk of being the Bluesky well ackhsually meme dude, here's a trivial counterexample: imperialist/interventionist wars are good for GDP.

Ceteris paribus all good things do indeed correlate with economic growth but that ceteris paribus is load bearing. You definitely *can* have "bad GDP growth".

I dont think people (or even trump, as much of an idiot might be) think about existing mortgages when referring to the impact of yields on mortgages. Then again I guess xkcd caveat applies.

Meh, this is just a restatement of the increasing wealth concentration in US.

At net worth south of 1M primary residence still utterly dominates stocks.

I think it's interesting to look at this on a log scale because it becomes pretty clear:

1. It craps the pants starting in 1970, not 1980.
2. It actually recovered from 2000 and now the two are running ~parallel. the lines still diverge in absolute terms because of different base.

I ~agree on complexity but ~60% of the whole ass thing is just this super trivial chart.

You simply cannot convince people that economy is "fine" and "hot" when they cannot afford houses they could ~5 years ago. See alt text.

Trump understands this thats why he wants to fiddle with the Fed.

Your ICE shows up in unmarked vans, French military police (which is a ginormous org) shows up in these, rungs and rungs and rungs of them, and the French still send policemen to the hospital lol

To be honest I think it's a form of mental dysfunction that makes them unable to bridge symbolic visual placeholders to reality.

Flash-in-a-pan, one-trick-pony public intellectual of the social media era having a normal one over a tenured professor who has forgotten more stuff then he'll ever learn lmao and is also a better blogger. Pathetic.

This is a structural phenomenon caused by incomplete socialist reform, because the capitalists have the whole PMC playing the game as the guy on the left.

The real working class is actually the liquid.

This is also why "social liberalism" in the end is just fascism with extra steps.

In what way "being able to see the sun raising and setting" is not material prosperity? I come from a place where in the aftermath of a massive environmental crisis 15y ago, the whole fucking place is _still_ littered in a way no other 1st World country is. I promise you it _is_ a material thing.

In Neapolitan where rum baba ("babba' au rumm') is typically made in the shape see below, you can call someone a "babba", I guess the metonymy is pretty obvious.

And it makes me think of this image macro.

We used to consume exclusively media made by theatre school types, then the man of the street (tm) started producing media and the result is just... not great?

Well, I never came out a barber shop smarter than I got in.
