You don’t have to earn this place and nothing is thrown away here. The moss and the rot, the fern and the fallen, all of it breathing together, makes the forest.

Annie Dillard died today.

She arrived at a hinge in my life and I never separated the two.

Annie watched hard things and looked at the whole landscape, giving horror and beauty the same care.

What a wondrous presence Annie Dillard’s words of piercing aliveness and immersive attention have been in my life and in this world. Grieving and cherishing her in her passage today.

Given all the *flails hands* you all deserve one of the most adorable pictures I took of Baby Bird Season 2026. A snowy ploverlet peeking through a little sand shrub.

Perhaps a once in a lifetime shot. 🪶 🐣

While reading Paul Stamets I found Herbert’s Dune melange is a metaphor for psilocybe mushrooms and Arrakis is a metaphor for the fungal lifecycle.

It’s not buried in a lost interview. Stamets put it in Mycelium Running (2005), Chpt 9, in a “Musings on Using Spores.”

They really are doing their best to dismantle what's left of American democracy, aren't they. My lord.

WA folks will be able to consult a list of drop box & voter center locations as of Sept 18.
WASHINGTON STATE BUT ALSO EVERYONE

Know how I said you should vote early & if, at all possible, deliver your ballot in person (here: bsky.app/profile/emil...)?

THIS IS WHY.

WA's list of drop box & voter center locations isn't live yet, but will be on Sept 18: www.sos.wa.gov/elections/vo...
