Shane Jones called a trade deal with India a "butter chicken tsunami" this week. So here's Taika Waititi from 2017, still relevant, still necessary. Give nothing to racism.

Luxon cancelled Breakfast over TVNZ staff conduct. Hosking named 5 National MPs as disloyal leakers on air. All of them say it's rubbish and fake news. One of those MPs has a formal Media Council complaint pending. Will Luxon cancel his appearance on Hosking's show?

Luxon cancelled Breakfast after 3 cheeky interviews with Tova O'Brien. Ardern cancelled Newstalk ZB after ~49 hostile interviews with Hosking — four years of being called dangerous, narcissistic, and a control freak. These two things are not the same.

In the matter of: Hosking v Ardern and O'Brien v Luxon
A case of mistaken equivalence. Three interviews vs. forty-nine. These two things are not the same.

Heading into 2026, I’m wishing for politics with less performative certainty, and more authentic care - from politicians, journalists, and all of us.🐎 2026, let’s get the horse back in the stable. Happy 2026.

@clrenney.bsky.social how are under-employed hours counted? I am only employed for 15 hours a week - would like to work full-time, but I don't think I am showing in any data because I do not qualify for government support. I imagine there are many like me in a similar boat?

Let's roll up our sleeves and get involved - whether Labour or the Greens (or TPM or TOP). If you want better messaging or more visibility on social media or whatever, then join your local branch, offer your skills, volunteer, donate etc. Send your local lefty MPs positive & encouraging messages.

Changing this govt will require all of us ordinary ppl to find a way to work together and build each other up and encourage each other and promote a narrative of hope and change and that another way is possible. While also disagreeing with each other 🤣

Harder, but feasible I think?

It's easy to point at each other and criticise each other for not being left enough or purist enough or good enough etc etc. Especially when we are scared and worried and desperately afraid of what another 3 years of NACT will mean for us all.

Top tip for National for 2026: You got elected on promising to fix the economy and the cost of living crisis. Stop blaming Labour, and just get on with it. Less moaning, and more doing.

When one MP using ChatGPT it is “cheating”… but a whole room of staff drafting, editing, and pressure-testing questions is “just politics”. Amazing what counts as scandal when you don’t understand the tool.

Loved this Jon Stewart and Jacinda Ardern conversation. Too many leaders weaponise fear. True leadership treats power as responsibility—to act with empathy, optimism & courage, and to improve lives. A good reminder right now.
