When Trump threatens Greenland, I think, “America is not meant to be a predator nation.” When he says, “To the victor belong the spoils,” I think, “We are not meant to be a thieving, plundering nation.” I hope that America recovers a right sense of itself.
Trump: "We're taking a lot of oil from Venezuela -- billions and billions of barrels of oil. To the victor belong the spoils."

Missouri elections be like:

Hitler (R) 79% - Christ (D) 21%

And then the ballot initiative:

Amend the Missouri constitution to require the state to own the means of production and work towards full communism?

Yes 92% - No 8%

Get. Rid. Of. Primaries.
They came to HIM. Who are these guys? don’t know when having a Nazi tat is ok.

Maine Dems did vote for him in primary, knowing that.

Primaries are so powerful. A small number of ppl determine an important role. Maine for Platner was 15%. All of Mamdani’s picks won on less than 17% voters.

Parties exist partly to vet candidates & vouch for them so voters don't pick someone bad out of ignorance.

Primaries short-circuit this function since primary electorates can no more do this vetting than can general election ones.
*taps sign*

The government running party primary elections instead of letting parties pick their own nominees in the manner of their choosing is a weird American thing that eviscerates the fundamental purpose of political parties and it's bad, actually.

The machine should read City of Chicago v. Morales.
“Loitering is not permitted in this area. Please proceed to a designated location. Thank you for your cooperation,” a surveillance machine tells a small cluster of National Guard members as they patrol the fenced off Reflecting Pool in the rain.

Honestly, people here expend millions of calories missing the point.

So here's an idea: Every Democrat should get a pass from the party to disavow someone like Chevalier. She's going to win anyway, but no candidate should have to spend a penny of political capital defending her.

Trump, Paxton, and Republicans proudly let pedophiles and cop killers free to re-offend

I’d say this individual is still better than that, but worst case it’s a wash on crime

Not ideal, but Dems the clear winner here

You know who else has never assimilated? Everyone who keeps flying that fucking Confederate flag.
Tom Emmer: "Minnesotans are so afraid that you're gonna call us a racist, you're gonna call us an Islamophobe. You know what? I'm done being even the least bit careful. Somalis don't assimilate. And if they don't assimilate, then they should go the hell back to where they came from."

Clinton was a uniquely bad candidate whose problems had almost nothing to do with policy or centrism. Most Americans decided long ago that they didn't like her and weren't going to let her be president. Don't keep raising HRC as a failure of centrism; she was a special problem all to herself.

as I observed earlier I'm not convinced any of that is because of the war directly vs the median voter still pissed prices aren't back to 2019, for whatever reason, and re-re-re-shifting their anger to whoever's currently in the oval, which they will continue to do until we have a recession

Listen to Ariana. This is genocide, not desperation, retaliation or escalation.

We have a moral obligation.
Tell me... If Russia is today bombing civilians and cultural objects in Ukraine "out of desperation," what was Moscow doing in February 2022 when it starting bombing civilians & cultural objects in Kyiv & the rest of free Ukraine? You know, when the West offered Kyiv to be a government in exile.🤔

I think populism is a poisonous drug that feels great after that first hit and then gives you the equivalent of political meth mouth
I actually believe Trump would have won the 2016 presidency as a Democrat nearly as easily as he did as a Republican.

Gutting the Democratic party would have gone just about the same, too.

Not saying as all populists have evil goals, but I think it crosses party lines pretty well.
The populist moment has always been better exploited by the Republicans, so be careful what you wish for

That the PM is the First Lord of the Treasury is a secret seemingly well-kept from every PM.

We tried that already. Look where we are now.
So if your answer to "what should be done about Trump" is "let the past be the past, let sleeping dogs lie," then I'm afraid that's the wrong answer!

New York is a creedal enterprise, something you belong to by valuing and believing in a set of ideals—urban pluralism, mutual tolerance, aspiration and surprise—and that’s why it’s the greatest & the quintessential American city, model of everything beautiful about the national project.
I really enjoy EB White's take on New York and New Yorkers.

The liberation of Wales is at hand!
British age polarization is honestly wild
Age was one of the clearest dividing lines in last month's election, with younger voters more likely to back Plaid Cymru and older voters more likely to back Reform UK
