It's worse if the game isn't upfront if it's a permanent choice or not; I've seen games put choices like this with roughly the same priority as accessing a shop or being asked what you think the weather is like today.

Nobody likes it if they're being asked to permanently choose between two characters they barely know beyond a first impression, only to learn that by picking one, they've permanently locked themselves out of the version of the game that had all the effort put into it.

It also doesn't help that a lot of videogame choices can have significant long-term impact, but the player just has absolutely no clue on what the right choice is, because the choice is so early that you have no idea what the consequences would even be.

CRPGs in particular have this problem a *lot*

Getting actual Philips screws is a big benefit for repairs, most people outside of Japan don't have JIS screwdrivers. It meant mundane repairs on Nintendo consoles become really risky affairs for no reason (N3DS backplates used JIS for example, making it a pain to swap them around.)

Yeah, understandable for the other screws. I'm mostly just happy that the new model uses Philips screws.

For the 3DS and Switch they used JIS for the outer frame (tri-wings are iirc mostly used in the internal stuff), but the problem is that JIS screws strip easily when you use Philips screwdriver.

Do we know if they replaced the screws with Philips or are they still JIS screws?

Tbh for new players, I'd make the following recs for the starting tickets/account setup stage...

6-star: Saria and whomever you like here. I picked OG Exu.

5-star: Texas, Lappland, Warfarin and Projekt Red.

Pretty sure the only one I'd recommend as anything other than a generic DPS stick for new players from this list is Saria.

And even that's with the caveat that 90% of the things you'll use Saria for, Gummy can also do. The remaining 10% is not for new players.
