anthology series focusing on magical character tropes. common thread is standard white boy, who comes into the life of the manic pixie dream girl in one episode, the wise black elder the next episode etc. episodes are from the character PoV obviously, the standard white boy is a prop for the others

also realised, in the skellin episode, that it isn't *like* a DnD campaign, it *is* a DnD campaign. once you imagine brennan lee mulligan voicing the trolls, you can't unsee it.

nope. being stationary with a far bigger buffer and a more predictable environment gives you a much larger margin for error. more slack so to speak. they won't be a libertarian paradise, but 18th century sailing is a poor analogy, especially since antarctic bases and oil rigs exist.
space colonies will, for a long period of time, be like 18th century ships. authoritarian environments where even one slipup means the whole ship could be lost. musk types like the idea of the draconian discipline + press-ganging without the strictness of admirality law
One reason why my favorite Mars colony sci-fi book is "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch" is that PKD realizes that living on Mars would like living in the dreariest imaginable suburb, where the main form of entertainment is taking drugs that offer out-of-body experiences of being back on Earth.

it's remarkable how like, you can visibly notice how people who still use X regularly are either getting dragged to the right (if on the centre-left or centre) or just getting more toxic in general

it's frankly bizarre to talk to these people. somehow knife carrying is simultaneously such a problem as to warrant removing the points from kitchen knives, but also not a problem at all if you say your god commands it.

a special privilege that has no place in a liberal society such as ours. the kirpan is as sacred to sikhs as the principle of equal treatment before the law is to us. people are understandably shocked to find out the degree to which parliament has violated a core principle of our traditional culture
This is a good, fair and firm statement on a horrible case. The murderer abused a privelege and responsibility that the vast majority of Sikhs take extremely seriously every day. To use this case to forment racist tensions needs to be stymied immediately.
