Please stop recommending How To Be an Anti-Racist. Please. For the love of all that is good. A book that says everyone is racist if they think racist thoughts is not honoring the work of our ancestors and elders. And, it certainly won't get us any freer. Here's a list of better books on anti-racism.

When it comes to writing, the process is the purpose. You don’t have to always like or enjoy the process, but if you don’t respect it enough to do it yourself, there is no purpose.

AI will never fill that void.

I wrote for Defector about boycotting Harry Potter, the ‘safe’, kindly face of anti-trans politics:

As a climate person, I feel this so much. Constantly being called extremists and told to be more moderate about the fact that we're destroying the only habitable planet we have
Something I've been thinking about is how safe streets advocates are treated as hysterical and dramatic for pointing out that drivers should stop killing us, yet the people fomenting a moral panic about e-bikes are treated as reasonable and their concerns are taken seriously.

Friends, we need to collectively let go of the concept of patriotism—which is fundamentally adversarial & extractive (existing only at the expense of others)—& embrace something akin to solidarity—focused on supporting & empowering.

right like let us all remember: we never needed TSA to begin with
I mean, the thing that disgusts me most about all this recent shit is how the badness of ICE is causing many people to retcon the TSA as somehow noble defenders of our airports when they are all part of the same evil goon squad! Oh, those poor TSA agents not getting paid for groping and abusing ppl!

They will be worse, undoubtedly. But TSA very often used pat downs to be sexually (and otherwise) abusive to passengers. As someone who used to fly a ton, I don’t know how anyone could think tsa were ok at their jobs unless we accept the fact that their jobs include doing a lot of fucked up shit.
ICE. Not TSA. TSA agents train for MONTHS and are generally OK at their jobs. ICE are roided up abusers and they have had no training. They will beat the shit out of countless innocent people. This is punishment. There will be targets and disappearances. Mark my words.

"The movement—that's the hero." Always and forever.
I read the NYT piece, and I am holding onto the words of a woman who fended off inappropriate advances from a 60-year-old Cesar Chavez at the age of 19. “It makes you rethink in history all those heroes,” Esmeralda Lopez said. “The movement — that’s the hero.”

I do hope though that people making these decisions reach out to Huerta's team to see if she wants places named after her rapist to be renamed to her.
Every single thing named after Cesar Chavez should be renamed for Dolores Huerta
God the Cesar Chavez stuff is just…men really should start out six feet under and work their way up.
