When did the etiquette of using headphones to listen to your phone in public go out the window? Was the pandemic? A father-son duo sitting across from me on the subway are BOTH watching videos without wearing headphones, and I want them thrown jointly in jail.

I’ll add:
- It’s “fleshing out”
- It’s “complementary” when you mean free, and “complimentary” when you’re paying a compliment

(Wait, what do people say instead of “brass tacks”? Do I even want to know?)
This is coming from a place of warmth and acceptance…

-It’s ‘sleight of hand’
-It’s ‘bated breath’
-It’s ‘lo and behold’
-It’s ‘one fell swoop’
-It’s ‘brass tacks’
-It’s ‘free rein’

Reporter: Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you.

Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake."

Why do I reflexively tell grocery store cashiers to “have a good weekend”? They’re not enjoying the weekend — they’re working! Am I just twisting in the knife?

Today's @garbageday.email (which is glorious) is about Gen Z's nostalgia for the millennial era. But every generation goes through this. Millennials cringed in horror at their depiction in Girls; Gen Xers cringed the same way at Reality Bites. ("It feels weird to be so marketed to," a friend said.)
