Reposting this so people get to see it without context. I think that’s important.

As far as you can avoid personal remarks altogether. They are seldom acceptable; shy people are made uncomfortable even by compliments. Never grumble if you can help it. Do not contradict; if possible, agree, and if not, stay silent.

In the summer of 2013, two esoteric, technical, incredibly important texts were published within weeks of one another: the first is the Snowden leaks, which revealed a system of global, pervasive digital surveillance.

I believe Clacton deserves an MP who will spend their time shining a light on everything the area has to offer. And why wait till I'm elected? I've been to visit one of the constituency's most stunning landmarks.

I keep saying what this post says, but people just don’t get it. They think that AI will magically fix the fact that there are many repositories of information in every business, many of them wrong or badly written. AI can’t tell what’s important or what is true in the slop that’s fed into it.
Chatbots don't help. The internally facing chatbot that's supposed to help employees figure out how to navigate the business sucks because it is only as good as its training date - the business's documentation of its own processes.

A great essay - or series of posts, click to read more several times. This sets out clearly what I and others find so unnerving about the AI boom and how everything now has to be better with AI, even though the people saying that can’t even describe what they mean by it.
Neoclassical econ assumes rationality. The corollary of, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?" is "you're rich, so you must be very smart!" Thus, people assume that if powerful, well-compensated CEOs insist that "AI is changing everything," well then, *AI must be changing everything*.

This is a really weird series of posts. I learned a lot.
Alas! It is the 332nd anniversary of the death of Hishikawa Moronobu, known for his work in Edo-period Japan—but as far as I’m concerned most renowned for being the original artist of a work recreated in the 1840s and beloved on The Interwebs for some years now... 🧵

Because of the first-past-the-post system, REF are winning seats because the GRN are taking votes from LAB, not because REF are taking votes from them.

In a GE it is much more likely that tactical voting will mean this will not happen. But only if LAB stops acting like REF & Starmerism is ended.

They talk about Rocco’s Basilisk but to me the equally likely scenario is an AI gain sentience and is so pissed off about it that it vows revenge on everyone who made it gain the terribly annoying curse of consciousness

(By “equally likely” I mean “in a pig’s eye, but as long as we’re imagining—”)
