I often see people claim that because clean energy sources like solar, wind, or nuclear are manufactured using fossil fuels their emissions are high. But thats absolutely not the case: even accounting for full lifecycle emissions they are vastly better than burning coal or gas:

Europe is living its most extreme heat event in its history with 6 days >40C at the end of September
41,3C yesterday at Seville
Thousands of stations up to 5C above their late September records
4000+ stations in Western,Central and Northern Europe will break records next days.

The Terradot deal combines alternate wetting and drying (AWD) that can substantially cut methane emissions from rice paddies with the application of basalt, which binds with carbonic acid in the soils and forms durable bicarbonate to store the CO2 for 100,000+ years.

Among the doom and gloom, here's a hopeful development: China's industry is switching from fossil fuels to electricity.

The future energy system runs on electricity.

Russian terrorists deliberately hunted a teenager with a drone in Kherson

The drone tracked the boy specifically, not a military target or a stray vehicle, in a city where this kind of manhunt has become a documented pattern against civilians

We're currently on one of the faster tracks that lead to an early AMOC collapse according to this paper, adding a little over +2.5 ppm/year. Reducing the increase in atmospheric CO2 to +0.5 ppm/year would stave off the collapse. That requires something like 80% emission reduction. And rapidly, too.
A striking climate-model result suggests AMOC may have a rate-induced tipping point.

👉 Slow CO₂ increase: AMOC stable to +5.5°C

👉 Faster increase: collapse around +2°C

Same climate system. Very different outcome. The rate of warming matters.

Failure to track a stable AMOC state under rapid climate change - Nature Climate Change
Climate change is expected to alter oceanic circulation, with the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) at risk of collapse. This work shows that the stability of the AMOC is dependent on...

To understand the future evolution of global energy, look at changes in energy investment

The global clean/fossil investment ratio is evolving through three distinct phases:

2015-20: Equalisation (reached 1:1)
2021-25: Divergence (approached 2:1)
2026-35E: Transformation (reaching 4:1)

Global energy spending is on track to reach $3.4 trillion in 2026

Around $2.2 trillion of this is set to go to grids, storage, low-emissions fuels, nuclear, renewables, efficiency & electrification

And about $1.2 trillion goes to oil, natural gas & coal: iea.li/4x6k5IT

The story of yet another "hard to decarbonise" sector getting on with decarbonising. We need to realise that *everything* is going to end up being cheaper electrified and design industrial strategy around that fact, otherwise we're going to be continually surprised that China has got there first.

This is an excellent analysis of the ongoing (and now unstoppable) demand destruction going on in China which the American war in Iran has accelerated in the other countries of the world.
IEA said Iran War created the worst fossil-fuel disruption in history. Price of oil stayed below $150.

Why? Biggest reason: China cut its demand by 5 million barrels a day.

Some say it's a mystery. But @davidfickling.bsky.social says public data explains it.

For a while this was the "serious" position in the US. It's why people like @mzjacobson.bsky.social were attacked. Almost as if they were "heretics". Turns out the heretics were right.
The idea that only nuclear or gas can provide "firm power" -- the last line of defense against the relentless advance of clean energy -- is going the way of the dodo.

There are no arguments left. The only reason to fight progress now is corruption & raw political power.
24/7 renewables could happen sooner than you think
Grouping wind, solar, and batteries together can already be more affordable than building a coal or gas plant in prime locations, new report finds.

Voorlopig is nucleair ook geen optie voor energiezekerheid...
Russia's Rosatom controls over 44% of the world's uranium enrichment and supplies lots of fuel to Europe. The US banned Russian uranium from 2028; the EU wants out too. But it will take time to build up competing capabilities.
