Check a TSV before the next pipeline step.

Fastmash health reports uneven records, missing-value indicators and mixed types. Declare requirements and add validate to fail on violations; inferred findings stay advisory.

Keep the highest readings and the records they came from:

fastmash -H top:10 reading < measurements.tsv

Add -s -g site for a selection per site. Earlier input wins ties. Text and quoted CSV are supported.

Some readings count more than others.

fastmash -H wmean reading:weight < measurements.tsv

Weighted averages for text or quoted CSV, across a dataset or per group. Finite, nonnegative weights; positive retained total required.

Fastmash compare summarizes two datasets, aligns keys and ranks absolute or percentage changes. Added and removed keys stay visible. Named columns can move between the two headers.

Readable help. Plain pipeline data.

Fastmash styles help, readable table-health reports and failure prefixes. Calculation output and health TSV stay plain, even with --color=always.

@thisweekinrust.bsky.social Would you be willing to take a look at my practical article on fast 80-bit arithmetic in Rust? I'd be really help if you can include it in an upcoming newsletter.
Fastmash ran a RefGene quartile job 4.2× as fast as GNU datamash on an Intel laptop. Same output.

I wrote about the Rust code, software 80-bit arithmetic and the lengths I went to for that last digit.

A million decimals: sum + mean.

Fastmash: 122.5 ms. GNU datamash 1.9: 324.7 ms. 2.7x the speed on an Intel Linux laptop, with matching output.

Full results, including slower jobs, and a kit for your own data:

A result should travel with its data.

Fastmash uses 80-bit software arithmetic and built-in locales. Same Fastmash version, input and explicit settings: same results on supported machines.

I've released Fastmash: datamash commands for text and quoted CSV, plus weighted means, top records, table checks and dataset comparison.

RefGene quartiles: 4.2x GNU datamash 1.9's speed on an Intel Linux laptop.

Arrow keys shouldn't wander behind an open menu. My proposed egui fix keeps arrow-key navigation within menus and their open submenus, so focus doesn't jump to controls behind them. github.com/emilk/egui/p... #Rust #OpenSource #Programming

I proposed a fix for fnm, the Node version manager: automatic version switching on cd can fall back to the setup executable when fnm isn't found in Bash, Zsh, Fish or PowerShell. Shell wrappers still take priority.

Unix convention: a process killed by a signal exits as 128 plus the signal number. fnm exec currently reduces that case to 1.

My patch preserves the signal status, so scripts can distinguish it from an ordinary failure.
