I guess I'll add that Dolly Parton is up there with Fred Rogers in terms of truly achieving what I think a Christian living their faith in public life should be like.

Whatever happens in Clacton tomorrow Farage is going to end up looking absolutely ridiculous

He wanted to prove himself to be the hero of the hour, taking on and taking down the mythical "establishment".

Instead he's going to look like an absolute clown - surrounded by clowns at a clown convention

Cheap Tuesday tonight!
Tickets are basically gone, but there’s always a small pay‑what‑you‑want queue at Monkey Barrel.
If that’s your plan, come a little early.
See you tonight.

Perfect encapsulation of how I feel every day …
Don’t know who to credit for this. But it is how I feel.

Not the most important issue on this issue, but intrigued to know whether “stochastic terrorism as a tort” might soon appear as a round on the Great British Bake Off? 🤔

I’ll get my coat …

Come and hear it on 28 March!
A 14-year-old Mozart attended a service at the Sistine Chapel — and walked out having memorised one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Allegri’s Miserere.

Carlo Gesualdo pushed music to its emotional extremes with chromatic twists that still sound extraordinary 400 years later. Hear his music alongside works by Allegri, Victoria, Monteverdi and Lotti in our Passiontide concert on 28 March. Link in bio.

Yes, housing was significantly cheaper relative to average incomes. That was something very good about the 1970s. But let's stop all this nostalgia for times that were by pretty much every metric shittier than today.

Figure Humaine is an outstanding piece of work, a moving celebration of the French liberation of WW2.
We are excited to present a performance of works by French and American composers, including Barber, Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc and Whitacre. Some familiar, some probably new to you! Join us at St Francis of Assisi, West Wickham at 6pm on Saturday 5th July. #bromley tickets: allegrisingers.org.uk

Amongst the fine issues of @quietriotpod.bsky.social this was particularly good from @sturdyalex.bsky.social and @petergeoghegan.bsky.social I’ve been interested for a while in this attempt to whip up a British (English?) religious right by a moneyed elite - and US funding for it.
The Barclays paid 15x Operating Profit for the Spectator. The Economist has been valued at 16xOP. Marshall paid around 38xOP to get the Spectator. GB News has posted over £105m total losses since launch. And yet the money keeps flowing in.

So, what is it he is buying? @petergeoghegan.bsky.social
📰 SPECIAL: What's Eating Paul Marshall? 📺

@sturdyalex.bsky.social asks @petergeoghegan.bsky.social to fill in the many gaps in the portrait of the emerging influential Unherd/GBNews/Spectator owner.

The concept Nigel Farage is incapable of grasping is human rights are universal - if we start stripping away basic human rights from any section of society then none of us has rights – just privileges that can be taken away by people in power whenever they want. I’ll fight that to my last breath

Let’s also not forget leaving the ECHR could result in UK’s trade deal with the EU being terminated because the convention is written into the 2020 Trade & Co-operation Agreement & would also breach the Good Friday Agreement which requires the Convention be directly enforceable in Northern Ireland
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage says

“We need to leave the ECHR so we can deport people that come illegally & take back control of our borders & that’s what the public wants”

Share if you disagree with his populist boll**** the UK should join Russia & Belarus outside the ECHR
