Kindness matters.
There are no counter examples of other systems even close to what’s necessary for the computational complexity for consciousness as we experience it.

Organic molecules appear universal and form naturally within the universe.

Yes. My career, was biological, fundamental to applied computer science research.

Those arguments link touched on some of what exobiology/SETI considered.

Move fast and break things community finding out that reliability and safety matter when deploying an LLM.

Since LLMs can’t be assured with known methods so push risk to user and caution it’s quickly evolving and may becoming conscious so not their responsibility.

Slime molds and rocks

FWIW autonomy researchers would start a general talk saying a “thrown rock” is autonomous and then tick off all the criteria it meets.

They then build out from that example the complexity separating a thrown rock from a Mars surface rover.

Back to the claim they’re building guards for upcoming AI “Consciousness”.

It’s nonsense, and what was described to safeguard a LLM’s behavior is called a run time monitor.

Idiots needed to have one in the first place instead trying to instruct a non-deterministic application to monitor itself.

“Biological matter“ which includes waste like manure, isn’t the right place to start looking.

Here is a summary description of the brain and its analogy, dynamic complexity underlying our consciousness. Not getting there with Nvidia GPUs.

Understanding complexity in the human brain
Although the ultimate aim of neuroscientific enquiry is to gain an understanding of the brain and how its workings relate to the mind, the majority of current efforts are largely focused on small ques...

A deterministic, certified run time monitor can oversee and set boundaries or throw an error on a nondeterministic, machine learning enabled component or LLM.

“Conscious“

Anthropomorphizing is ridiculous in any professional context

NOT hard to tell bc the underlying hardware cannot. Biology is not boolean.

Did an AI masters in 80s and have heard variations of this over the years.

There is no way to assure these non deterministic systems are correct.

True.

Still while NASA‘s SpaceX contract demonstrating in space refueling is late, and over budget, under Biden NASA bought using a fixed cost contract.

That means SpaceX should be paying for cost overruns like Boeing has for Starliner.

Allocation of Authority and Responsibility.

People given technical responsibility, don’t have governance authority to make the decisions.

Organizations understand the governing laws and directives and how to comply with them. A DOGE doesn’t.

What part of the Russian empire is natively Russian?

Putin says all of it. I understand How he is wrong.

We cant take that nationalism seriously Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union and gave up nuclear weapons for the promise of national assurance and we let them down.

What does he even mean NASA dodged a bullet?

Jarad is aware it’s SpaceX‘s lack of progress on their inflight fueling contract hold him back and Blue Origin‘s rocket failure blew up their KSC launch pad.
