Too much modern culture only understands politics as a form of performance art and not as a form of individual and/or collective action, even though the latter is what politics actually is.
Dolly Parton lived with a gay man for years. She was a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ folks and a philanthropic champion of childhood literacy and education, vaccines, and the black people in her community.

"We don't know what her politics were"? Please. She lived them. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/27/a...
Dolly Parton’s Cautious Politics Resulted in Widespread Affection
Bipartisan tributes demonstrated the success of the singer’s long-running effort to stay out of party politics in a sharply divided country.

I'm from Tennessee originally and have had Complicated feelings about the place since I was very young. Dolly Parton wasn't the only thing to be proud of from TN, but she certainly made it better, even joyful to be a Tennessean.

if you let yourself become reliant on LLMs to the point that you're asking them to do things like "summarize text messages" and "communicate with your loved ones," you suffer from a profound weakness of character.

George Saunders’ Lincoln in the Bardo is a book with a unique prose style that asks a lot of the reader, but it also teaches you how to read it within about 25 pages. I have absolutely no respect for people who won’t even fucking try.
Axios writer: I melted my brain with AI. Not only can I no longer read, but I don't even understand the purpose of reading anymore. Here's how you can also do this.

If Brad & Chisholm try to start a narrative on Monday that the trade was not driven by finances, they are lying. I can buy that these other (stupid) reasons played their part, but I do not buy that the cost of Jaylen's contract alongside Tatum's was not the driving motivator.
Additional details on Jaylen Brown trade, per Sam Amick, Jay King:

- Trade "not driven by finances"
- Blazers' analytics view Brown as a "negative player"
- One current GM doesn't view Brown as a top-50 player in the league

💚
My Jaylen Brown on the Celtics wrapped

- 2 nephews 👶🏻
- 1 relationship/breakup 💔
- 1 pet 😺
- 1 ring (Celtics 😉)
- Paid off college debt
- Endless memories

End of an era...

The Jaylen Brown trade is cheap, loser behavior from the Celtics front office. Chisholm and Stevens should be ashamed, but rich assholes and their flunkies never are. Even if he miraculous spins Paul George into something, anything, I never want to hear "in Brad we trust" again.

the severe misread of youth by ai prophets is that at 22 you’re starving for agency. all your life you’ve waited to call your own shots. the idea that what you get instead is “tell the machine to draw a horse” is inherently offensive
Yup. It's so tiring hearing that we (as teachers) MUST "prepare our students for an AI future" & "get on the AI train or else be left behind," & I'm aware that some professors are using AI for grading or creating AI lectures using avatars of themselves, but I think if "AI is the future" we're fucked
This is the University of Central Florida. So many people really have no idea how much kids hate this shit.

I think getting Giannis for Jaylen is a good-on-paper-not in-practice scheme. Now I have to hear about it all off-season, mainly from people acting like Jaylen got a big head. How would "whose team is it" discourse get any better with GIANNIS on the team??
