Our statement regarding MLS NEXT Pro and their handling of a recent disciplinary issue:
During a recent MLS NEXT Pro match, a male head coach committed two deliberate acts of physical abuse and sexism against a female official -- squeezing her hand and refusing to let go after being told to stop three times. This physical intimidation was compounded by a demeaning, sexist remark to the official: "Don't forget, this is a man's game." MLS NEXT Pro investigated and responded with a two-game suspension and other non-suspension discipline. U.S. Soccer policy states a “forceful grab” like this requires a minimum three-game suspension. Acts of discrimination also require a minimum three-game suspension. MLS NEXT Pro’s own manual also states that coaches are held to “a higher professional standard than players.” The League’s response falls drastically short of the right message to the participants, the referees, and the public. It needs to be reevaluated. Women make every level of this game better. They should not have to endure intimidation or degrading comments to prove it. Our female officials have proven their excellence on the world stage. They deserve the same respect, dignity, and safe working environment as every other official.

The crew of Tori Penso, Brooke Mayo, and Katy Nesbitt became the first all-female American crew to work a Men’s World Cup match when they took the field for Czechia vs. South Africa. The crew worked 2 group games, with Tori and Brooke also selected as 4th official and Reserve AR for 2 games.

Drew Fischer, Micheal Barwegen, and Lyes Arfa became the first Canadian trio to work a Men’s WC match when they officiated the France vs. Iraq group stage game in Philadelphia. The crew finished with 2 group stage matches & worked the entertaining Round of 32 matchup between Cabo Verde and Argentina

Ismail Elfath, Corey Parker, and Kyle Atkins became the most decorated American on-field crew when they officiated ENGvARG in the semifinal. They also became the first American crew to work multiple knockout round matches, taking charge of NORvBRA in the Round of 16, following 2 group stage games.
