I caught the 1960 version of The Time Machine on TCM today, and was charmed by the wonky FX and production design. The Morlock makeup was a hoot, but their glowing eyes sure were creepy! It doesn’t have to look “perfect” to me as long as I’m engaged with whatever the movie’s trying to convey.

I’ve been using TCM, Hoopla & Kanopy this year to dive deep into a TON of first-time watches for hundreds of films I really should’ve seen decades ago. It’s been a wonderful experience, and I keep discovering obscure titles I’d never known about.

I’m almost willing to believe people freaking out over anything “devil” related over other horror stuff. Opening night of the original Amityville Horror as a kid, a lady we knew (who was very churchy!) ran out of the theater crying “No no NO!” towards the end. Small-town kooks running wild.

I did see it happen once - an attendee at the 2007 Fantastic Fest screening of Inside - but it happened on the last day of an eight-day festival with copious amounts of drinking going on throughout. I’m not even sure it was during the film’s infamous scissor scene. 🤮 That fest was wild back then!

It’s both for me as well - I’m reading and comprehending words while also hearing them in my head (with a version of my voice that sounds different than the one I hear in recordings).
I too have a nonstop internal monologue going while awake, which can make going back to sleep a hassle.

I was so glad this showed up in my city at three theaters last week! It’s a remarkable viewing experience and thoroughly enjoyable. Sadly, it’s down to just a morning showtime at a single location here starting this Friday.

I HATE that feeling. It takes me a good 2 weeks before the vision issues subside. Those frames look great on you, though!

I used to pore over the theater ads in bigger city papers as a kid - so many weird exploitation/smut films promoted in startling detail.
I’d also get our local drive-in ads in the weekly Star Shopper paper, praying for another “Four-hit horror marathon!” that I could beg my folks to attend.

It felt like a really loving representation of an ideal late 70s Marvel Team-Up Annual.
I also liked how casually it confirms that character interactions are happening offscreen between the movies & shows for later reference.

We saw that for the Monday Mystery Movie last week. The brush-off about how the whole process worked for non-straight couples was infuriating. Stupid flick indeed.
