maybe it’s just coz im one of those where my childhood was sufficiently weird and alienating and repressive that it often feels like a different life entirely but im not all that intensely longingly nostalgic about most things. but i am about this, for some reason

& ive not had many of the greater pleasures of cds either. like swapping the disc on ur console when u get to the end of disc 1 of one of the final fantasys with multiple discs. that has gotta feel so cool, like i progressed enough that every session starts on disc 2 now

it just feels weird not always having one for when it’s needed or at least nice to have. can’t listen to any random audio cd. not taking pc games off the shelf to play. can’t burn any random data i want onto a disc. whenever i get to have a desktop modular pc, cd drive will be mandatory in the setup

ok mystcraft itself is from 2014. so prolly like 2015 or so is when i first heard of it? was looking that up bc how the fuck did they make a custom dimension maker mod in 2014. that kind of thing, that, vanilla world gen options, rftools dimensions, 20w14∞ have always been catnip for me fsr

and the internet age were in now where we’re simultaneously connected to everything and physically separated from everything in our homes is one of the most extreme paradigm shifts in this direction. esp for disabled people like me whose bodies and minds cant deal with the physicality of it as well

im skeptical of the general Narratives of History we tell ourselves but u can def see more of this over time. at first ur bread was from ur local field & u knew the baker. and then from ur general area. then trade routes. eventually u could add spices from across the world (huge suffering). and etc.

it’s one of those ideas that once you hear it articulated you’re like, oh Thats what that is. u dont think about the ppl that make AAA games & their employers don’t want u know theyre firing hundreds of them. they want u to see strikes as a nuisance against You and not the bargaining method it is

this is called ‘alienation’ in this context. in specific ur separated from the people that make the things you use every day, making it a lot harder to empathize with or even recognize them. prolly a good analogy on it from the vegan angle too. it’s a very important thing to recognize and remember!!

as always my first instinct upon interacting with any kind of mechanical engine is ‘how do i use this to make custom content’

in my Ideal World id make a whole set (prolly with a lot of weird new uses of old/obscure mechanics coz i love that shit) & have enough ppl else working on that to make it, like, good and powerful (a worthy addition to existing sets) but not broken. but id at least like to make a couple of cards
