Hello, BlueSky! 👋End-of-life care is a mosaic crafted from shards of memory, grief, and transition. Want to know what inspired me to help the dying and their circles of care navigate the journey with dignity and intention? Read on for a look at my journey. 🧵

Post 1/3 For #BannedBooksWeek, I'll share titles that are often banned because their content presents inconvenient truths about death, dying, and grief. Starting us off, I'm nostalgic to share the most impactful book of my young life: "Bridge to Terabithia" by Katherine Paterson. 🌿🧵

In 2025, 39% of challenged books represent the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and people of color.

This isn't just censorship. It's an attack on our communities!

Read banned books. Help us continue fighting for equal access to knowledge. 🏳️‍🌈📚

Not big on selfies (#GenX lol) but with a birthday on the horizon, why not? Working with mortality teaches you to wear bright colors, celebrate getting older, & savor being right here, right now. Grateful for another trip around the sun! ☀️

Post 1/2 In Arizona, green burials skip embalming fluids and vaults, allowing bodies to naturally return to the earth. But that's not the only eco-option available to us here. 🧵

Currently reading Briefly, Perfectly Human by Alua Arthur, and the quote deeply resonated with me. It captures the heartbeat of why I want to do this work: everyone deserves to be truly seen and valued, especially as they approach the end of life. 🤍

Common question: Do I need a doula if I already have hospice?

Hospice provides essential medical, nursing, and clinical care. Doulas offer non-medical emotional, practical, and holistic support—working alongside hospice to keep your wishes centered. 🤍

October is around the corner and that means new space for pro bono work is available! If you or someone you love needs a little extra professional support right now, I can help.

AND - all these services work well as online meetings, so you don't even need to be in/near Phoenix! 🧵👇

Lured by #nostalgia, my wife and I invested 15 cents each for a piece of Bazooka bubblegum while we were out today, mostly to see if there’s still a #comic in each piece.

Good news: there is!
Bad news: pretty sure AI is writing them now.

#Dammit, @bazookajoe! Is nothing sacred?

Post 1/2 So to recap: disenfranchised grief is real. It matters to name it because its pain is often compounded by a lack of validation. The grieving person doesn't just lose something or someone; they also lose access to the rituals, support systems, and social permission that help them heal.🧵

A quiet moment at the threshold of day.

Simply sharing the sunrise is a reminder of how natural transitions can be when we allow ourselves to sit quietly and witness them.

Are you creating space for quiet moments in your week?

Not all grief gets a card, flowers, or a funeral. Disenfranchised grief happens when society doesn't recognize or validate your loss, leaving you to mourn in silence. Your pain is real, even when the world doesn't name it. 🧵 1/3

Did you know that different types of grief exist? One form is disenfranchised grief, which happens when a loss isn't socially acknowledged or validated.

Tomorrow, we'll dive deeper into what this looks like. 🕯️

What is a death vigil? During a person's final hours, an end-of-life doula helps hold space and craft a peaceful physical & emotional environment.

We manage the room atmosphere so loved ones can focus entirely on connection and presence. 🧵

Amazing work! Death salons led by Black, brown, and LGBTQ+ doulas are creating safe spaces to discuss mortality, grief, and end-of-life care. By addressing cultural stigmas, systemic barriers, and traditions, they’re helping marginalized communities embrace death on their own terms. 🌿✨
Beautiful 💙 And so needed in our society.

"Acting on a lifelong interest in how communities process grief, Moor became a death doula, a non-medical professional who provides emotional and practical support to people who are dying and to their loved ones."

Death doulas and hospice teams aren't competitor. We’re actually teammates. 🤝

Together, we combine medical expertise with continuous personal support for the dying and their circle of care.

As I craft my life’s third act, I'm taking on a new role: offering services as a Death Doula. Navigating end-of-life transitions is profoundly personal, and my goal is to provide grounded, compassionate support to the dying and their circles of care loved so no one has to walk this path alone. 🧵
