St Patrick's traditional colour is "true blue" It's partly why the Irish Citizen Army's flag during the Easter Rebellion had a blue background.
Green was a Protestant thing, during the United Irish rebellion of 1708 which was lead by mostly middle-class Protestants .

I'd actually add that while some of his backers want to make money on this and they have probably convinced him he can, too, the biggest schemers in this operation have been quite explicit about wanting to destroy the Fed and the concept of anything but a global cryptocurrency. Ahem Peter Thiel.
