On Wednesday, before our lunch date, I took my fellow Hilltop volunteers on a tour and showed them unfamiliar paths. They were amazed how many flowers we saw, most of them sweetly scented. Oh and it was a dry day unlike yesterday!
A collage of four flowers spotted at Wisley on Wednesday. I wish I could share the scent with you. The first picture is of the tiny white flowers of Sarcococca or Christmas Box. Next to it is Hamamelis with yellow spidery flowers. At the bottom is a spray of creamy yellow flowers of Chimonanthus or Winter Sweet and the last picture is a cluster of white Daphne flowers.

Photograph taken from a bridge in the Chinese Streamside garden area at RHS Bridgewater in very late November a few years ago. A series of small ponds surrounded by stones show reflections of the winter skeleton trees and surrounding bushes. A couple of acers cling on to the last of their colourful leaves. Sky overhead is a pale grey. In distance is a string of bright red Chinese lanterns. Love this peaceful garden, despite it being nestled in the urban sprawl of Manchester. Always something new to see when visiting in each season. I created a very colourful, flower-free garden many years ago. It was a fun challenge - focusing on contrasting leaf shapes and colours, with an array of different heuchera.

Hmm. Do I stick to the main path through the woods or take one of the narrow tracks through the trees? I usually opt for the latter and end up climbing over several fallen ash trees.🌳
