Interestingly, I recently read about a research project revealing that police officer is not among the more stressful jobs. Cops hold power and authority in most workplace interactions and the assertion that they “put their lives on the line every day” is more myth than reality.

Well, I know firemen and cops who I find very emotionally healthy. I also know racist ones who don’t have an alcohol problem. Perhaps the two I referenced earlier did perceive alcohol as an effective means of coping with job stress.

Like the reactions to Colin Kapernick taking a knee and Tommie Smith and John Carlos holding up their fists at the ‘68 Olympics, trying to control another’s thoughts and opinions is the epitome of intolerance. I can only imagine what it must be like to have to be this umpire’s wife or children!

They’re friends of my older brother, from the old neighborhood in Detroit where I grew up. Are you familiar with the term “dry drunk?” These are alcoholics who are sober but not in recovery who abstain by pure will power, admirable in its own right, but often still carrying emotional baggage.

Interesting thought. It does generally seem that fire department culture is “be an empath” and the police department culture is “be a bully.” I’m sure there plenty of exceptions on both sides.

Here in Michigan senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has expressed his desire to reduce overcrowded prisons by paroling non-violent criminals, a common position among liberal candidates. But commercials claim he wants to set murderers free. That people actually believe that crap burns me to no end.

Home opener for a very good team in their brand new stadium and we’re facing the reigning league MVP. That’s a tall task. I just want them to give Buffalo a run for their money. If our guys lose I won’t be upset.

There needs to be a Carfax for NFL player trades and free-agent signings. It’s a brutal game and imo the human body just isn’t designed to endure the kind of punishment that constant collisions with 250-300 lb. men causes.

They never trailed in the game. There was a time when, all the time, the Lions were on the losing side of games like this. Not so much these days so I’m gonna enjoy that juxtaposition as long as I can.

If you’re looking for 56-0 every time out get ready for some major disappointment. They aren’t a Super Bowl team, but neither is any other team, yet. I’ll bet you had a boner for the Rams until they got their asses handed to them last Wednesday. Tough league, long schedule.

Problem is, the Steelers’ needs are the same as the Lions - o-line and secondary. Therefore I’m not sure we could put together an attractive offer unless we give up a prime draft pick. Steelers need a QB and the ‘27 draft is looking deep with talent.

Great spirit. And a healthy way to look at the game. A tough slog, some wobbles along the way, but came through when they needed to! Definitely a win worth building upon.

If I were Holmes or Campbell, I’d assume that Branch and Joseph are gone for good and get some talent for the long term. If Branch and/or Joseph return to their former level of play, that’s icing on the cake.

We didn’t settle for this win. We scored ten huge points when we really needed to. That’s the mark of a good team. As for the Bills game, good opponent, their home opener in a brand new stadium, and playing on three days rest. If the Lions are competitive I’ll cut them some slack if they don’t win.

I agree - the Lions are a solid team by and large. The secondary is their biggest liability. I’d like to see them get that fixed and soon. Let’s remember that it was the first action of the season for most of our starters.

I think you underestimated the Saints. I expected a close game. In the NFL, things ain’t over until they’re over. The Lions scored ten really big points when the game was on the line and they should be commended for that. I say it further establishes them as a clutch team, not SOL.
