For a lot of people the purpose of politics is to inflict cruelty. I think those people are horrified by Mamdani because there’s no obvious cruelty, so they assume it must be secret and they must be the targets. They can’t imagine a world where someone doesn’t dream about hurting others.

Every accusation is a confession. As a former theater operator, I can tell you from experience that the current right-wing conspiracy theory about The Odyssey’s ticket sales has currency because this is, in fact, how small ideologue studios juice their own numbers to make their sales seem strong.

Let's modify "Don't speak ill of the dead" to "Don't speak falsely of the dead."

Sounds like the issue is an affordable college education and not a handful of trans athletes but we seem to only debate and legislate the latter.
