Retired professor in philosophy and director of Integrative Studies at NKU who now travels, bakes pies, photographs, and builds affordable housing for birds. Woke, but grumpy.
The president is refusing to spend taxpayer money assisting Americans suffering from natural disasters solely because their states didn't vote for him.
I know there are a thousand scandals at the moment, but this one deserves some more oxygen at every level.
Is this just business as usual in politics? No. Approval rates of federal disaster aid requests were about the same regardless of the state and did not vary much with the party of the President. This graph powerfully conveys the scale of the partisan discrimination now.

I was looking for a good war movie about weather prediction. I was rewarded with Pressure (2026) with Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser. Intense and human with good performances. Most of the fighting was between meteorologists, but the Nazis do show up later, when the weather turns.

Truly the worst thing about the American Century of Humiliation is that we're not just getting roasted by rising economic powers like China, but by countries like Belgium, whose median age is like 400 years old, whose major export is blood diamonds and who still won't take down King Leopold statues.

Enjoying the for-now quiet morning with my cup of coffee, sitting on the observation deck of the Rusty Elk Lodge, here at Camp Rudy. I was joined by this doe, both of us still recovering from a night of bombs bursting in air and rocket's red glare. I should have left the ramparts up.

Superfans and sleuths appear to have their hunches confirmed on Friday, as dozens of black cars dropped off elegantly dressed guests outside of Madison Square Garden in New York City. The wedding bash is expected to last into Saturday morning. n.pr/4f5J9aO
Two fawns resting in the Camp Rudy ivy bed this morning. I hadn't seen them in weeks and feared they might not have made it. But they looked healthy (and disturbed that someone was photographing them).

From Costa Rica last year. I had it ID'd as an Amazonian Plain-Xenops but I'm now told it is a Northern Plain-Xenops. That sounds right. My apologies. #birds
