It's great that @shaunlintern.bsky.social has more stories to follow on this. As mentioned by others, there's lots of research going on about how to tackle #polypharmacy but one of the key challenges is what you define as a successful intervention. [1/2]
Almost 8 million over 50s are taking 5 medicines a day - the threshold for #polypharmacy - About 2.2 million take 10 drugs a day. For frail, elderly patients drugs can have cumulative, harmful effects and the NHS just isn't geared up to tackle the problem:

I've loved the Lost Words Blessing for so long and today I got to sing it in a beautiful choral arrangement with a fab scratch choir in Bristol. Very excited to hear the whole Spell Songs ensemble later this week too.

Poor care or lack of a human approach in healthcare can't be fixed by getting people to engage with some kind of compassion/kindness training.

The routine conditions we have- the focus on tasks, protocols, & performance metrics- actively work against an approach that'd support human connection.

I really enjoyed a visit to the London Fashion and Textile Museum with my teenager this week to see the exhibition of work by Susan Collier and Sarah Campbell. It was as joyful as the name suggests: Paint! Pattern! Print! 💕🌈🌼🦚🦋

The striped jug in the collage below was his artwork in response.

I have lots of thoughts about this awful story and echo all of what Rachel says in this thread. Teaching pharmacy students and pharmacists about mental health medicines I always try and equip them with key safety messages about #clozapine (wherever they work). This resource is a good start ⬇️ [cont.]

Reply by quote post as not able to reply. Tina made me some beautiful earrings in memory of my grandmother. I'd never had bespoke jewellery made for me before (and perhaps never will again) but she guided me through everything.

The medicines supply chain is quite fragile for many drugs. It will actually break if people do this.

This does seem to be a key barrier when people ask how can we get the best possible people in parliament. Being a candidate and then a backbench MP looks pretty awful to me. "Why We Get the Wrong Politicians" by
Isabel Hardman really opened my eyes to this and changed how I think about politics.
The visible, and sometimes openly expressed attitude of 'these people should be grateful. Last week they were a teacher and now they are an MP with a precarious majority and who gets death threats and called a paedo protector'. They liked being a teacher!

There are *so* many examples where the onus is on vulnerable patients to navigate poorly functioning systems. There are sometimes relatively simple fixes that could make things better if staff had time to pause and consider their service as a whole. But that's rare, and everyone loses as a result.
Not only is he managing a chronic condition, he has this additional admin burden. It causes unnecessary stress & makes the condition feel far more onerous to live with.

There could be tons of examples like this where navigating the system is almost as stressful as having the condition itself 2/2

I know there's a lot of awful stuff on social media and that those who run the companies are interested in profit above any responsibility towards users, but I am trying to work out how to navigate this with my autistic 12yr old who gets so much joy researching his special interests on YouTube 😔

Law is not magic, and prohibitions are not spells.
Prohibition has never worked. We already know that very high numbers of under 16s in Australia continue to access social media notwithstanding the 'ban'. The same will happen in the UK. All a ban does is given the impression of having 'done something' while ignoring the actual issues.

I spent an extraordinary evening yesterday immersed in the music of William Byrd. Performed by candlelight in the stunning interior of Bath Abbey, recreating a clandestine Mass held in Elizabethan England, I found it very moving. @thegesualdosix.bsky.social have created something very special.

Useful info:
▪️Store meds out of direct sunlight esp if you’re out & about
▪️Know the signs of heat-related illness: some meds make this more likely
▪️ Some meds make your skin more likely to burn: take extra care if so

Mental health meds are common culprits for this stuff, more details in the link ⬇️

Don't assume that people know they're appreciated. Seems to me genuine appreciation & being seen for making an effort at something really does land. It's something we can do for each other, & can make more difference than we know.

There is understandable concern with potential risks of data sharing in the NHS.

There is also actual & real harm that happens regularly because there isn’t enough NHS data sharing.

Changes to improve data sharing for NHS & social care services will make real positive difference to people’s lives.
Minister Zubir Ahmed, a transplant surgeon, told me that in January he had to decline a kidney for someone because a lack of access to GP records at a weekend meant he couldn't be sure the organ was safe. GPs meanwhile still rely on letters from hospitals to know what happened to their patient.
🚨 GPs and hospitals will be forced to share patient data with each other in a push by Labour to join up siloed parts of the NHS, under legislation set to be announced in the King’s Speech on Wednesday www.thetimes.com/article/3fee...

We’re doing the antidepressant thing again, it seems. I’ve been taking those two larger white pills since I was 16. No shame here. The little one stops my heart from freaking out. My brain catastrophically misinterprets threat causing an illness that has tried to kill me on at least five occasions.
