I'll go one further: the true-crime industrial complex is a tool of fascism. People falsely believe that random violent crime is extremely common are much more likely to vote for "law and order" candidates. Also, only extending sympathy to people who claim factual innocence is extremely dehumanizing

I think it’s really, really telling when some of the same dems that called various high-impact actions of the administration earlier on a “distraction” are so focused on this issue

My “Too Woke Friend” take has remained that this “robot slur” thing saw a lot of popularity because many people online wanted to, at some level, be able to say slurs without getting in trouble

If this pans out, it’s def of note how in these super asymmetrically funded campaigns, if you make the spending a loud issue early and often you can turn the results of the other side’s spend into reminders of you and the money against you

The problem with the comparison is equating support for a project which necessarily requires genocide resulting in that genocide and support for an oppressed group having political consequences resulting in the furthering of an unrelated genocide
