I also can't speak for what the actual marketing is like in Japan, but MAL classifying Re:Cutie Honey as GL in comparison at least makes sense in the amount of screentime the Natsuko/Honey relationship gets in comparison to the Ryuko/Mako one, yet they're equally canon

Example: in Gene Bride it becomes clear that the lead is a lesbian, but I'd never market it as a yuri even though she ends up with a woman bc she spends most of the time facing the Horrors of Patriarchy with her autistic dude sidekick, if you want yearning this isn't for you, but it is still queer

9 manga and anime series that shaped who I am. I feel like the anime choices are pretty easy to pin but considering I mainly read manga as either a young teen or as a adult with well-established tastes, there is an interesting mix there

I understand why Kare Kano's anime adaptation tends to get more attention, but after finishing the first volume I'm honestly blown away by the manga's paneling and shocked I haven't heard it praised, the use of negative space is so evocative and creative, even for pretty "normal scenes"
