This has to be one of the most awaited memoirs for Indians in the recent past. Dare I say, much more than Roy’s even. Hoping it lives up to the colossal expectations. Sonia Gandhi will be remembered in history as the most influential person in their family after Nehru and Indira themselves.

One of the foremost Marxist Historians of India, and a founder and critic of the subaltern studies group, Sumit Sarkar passed away at the age of 87, on August 13th.

It's as if the 2019 CAA-NRC protests that were interrupted by the pandemic, have recommenced today in India. In 2019, the government was still merely 5 years old, and people were trying to work despite it. 11 years on, with the devastation it has wreaked since, no one's hiding their disgust at them.

Learned via the handle qudratikath on the birdsite, that a poem titled 'The Urgent Call of Palestine' by a young Indian woman named Lalita Punjabi was set to music by Zeinab Shaath in 1970s and filmed by Ismael Shammout. The interview is deeply fascinating.

I don't enjoy the euro-western doomerism of some climate models which predict continued warming for decades even if we stop all emissions now. They still largely overlook landback and management to indigenous people, who have far more at stake in protecting the planet.

Don’t think the general public in Europe understands yet that they have to join the world’s formerly colonised peoples in pushing back against capitalism, fossil fuels, and altering their excessive consumption. Or they’ll find themselves environmental refugees in less than a decade.

European nations need to mandate that all landlords need to fit their rental properties with external sun blinds and shutters. It’s the least they must do to prevent heat stress or even deaths in heat trap apartments.

Absolute delight to revisit old Tom Alter interviews. An incredible command over Urdu unrivalled by many of his contemporaries. Watching him grow livid at reporters asking him in 2017 how he could speak Hindi well, and for making a borderline islamophobic comment, remains a top moment. RIP Tom ji.

Several widely-read people that I know, happen to draw the worst conclusions that enable conservatives. Because the key is not how much you read, but *how* you read. And this is where good teachers are important. They help one learn to critically examine text, reflect, and argue in good faith.
