I used to feel virtuous on Tax Day: doing my civic duty, sending my tax dollars forth for roads, park rangers, etc. and to keep the wheels of democracy turning.
Today I'm just sad and bitter about the harm and waste that will be done--and the check was more than I paid for my (used) car.

It's my birthday and I am under the influence of a massive margarita. Still having issues with dialing in my sign for Saturday's protest--so much outrage, so little real estate on a sheet of foamcore. But I managed a decent picture of the black cat today while out enjoying the sunshine:

On our way to Eureka from Mendocino we achieved quiet: no planes trains or automobiles, just the intermittent dripping of water off the trees.

I saw a CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) car outfitted with a 360° camera driving through town today. I'm in Washington State, the car had Florida plates. CISA was established in 2018 as part of DHS. It feels like this is probably bad.

For MLK Day, I'm thinking about the fact that I didn't learn about the Poor People's Campaign until 2017, when I finished my degree at age 50.

Just checked the box of food color to see if any of the food dyes were not on the naughty list--and no luck. Red #3, Yellow #5, Blue #1. Sigh. I had switched to pastels with the idea that the bad stuff would at least be less concentrated--but it's looking like it might be uncolored stars.

A friend of my husband's has been told her original 40-year-old copy of her (courthouse) marriage certificate (signed by a judge) is insufficient (along with all her other documents) to issue her a Real ID per Homeland Security.

I turned off NPR. I listened to some obnoxious rock music instead (I rarely listen to music). I drove out to the Columbia Gorge waterfalls, where at times I was the only car I could see on the old scenic highway. I looked at three waterfalls. It was kinda great.

"Don't read the comments!" had become my mantra on FB, where nothing was too trivial for trolls. An ad for size-inclusive clothing? "Stop normalizing being fat!" A video of anyone in hijab doing anything? "Jesus is the one true God & your (sic) going to hell!" Here is better.
