Science, music, travel and opaque jokes. I prefer "progressive liberal" to "lefty".

I don't follow back people who push Crypto.
If you're really desperate to know more you can ready my autobiography..
I expect lots of new world records to be set. Like the old joke "I don't need to be faster than the crocodiles, I just need to be faster than you"

#LFF 10 out of 14 selection, which is OK. All on the balcony in the RFH though - much preferred the old days when it was all round the West End and the ICA and the festival went on a few days longer but there you go.

#LFF After being 23k or so down the queue last year, I started early this year and was only 7300 in the queue, now down to about 2k and 15 minutes. I have a long list though (anticipating not getting many of my choices..). We shall see a little after 11.

Watching the last #silo for the time being. The vital question being ignored is what happened to Peter Gabriel..

There's probably an obscure Japanese word for the slight but constant discomfort felt when you're really into something on TV but you're watching with someone slightly less engaged and they're holding the remote.

I'm not a great fan of her music, thought I liked "Coat of many colours", but #dolly Parton really was one of the best human beings.

The only reason data centers use so much water is that it's cheap. They can have closed loop cooling (like a fridge) or air cooling. But they cost more. Presumably the heat could be used to generate electricity, or just as local heat, but again that would cost. This could be regulated. #datacentres

Can the BBC stop kissing Trump's ring? Trump is the reason behind the collapse, don't imply Canada has done anything wring. #trump #canada

Trump says Canada wants 'benefits' of being US state after trade talks collapse
Canada's PM said he was "reluctantly" announcing retaliatory tariffs and accused the US of starting a trade war.

Never mind the bollocks
My friend: “Did you see that video of Kacey Musgraves performing while seated on disco truck nuts?”

Me: “…what?”

[looks up video]

Me: “You know, I honestly I don’t know what I was expecting.”

Whatever the legal basis for the case that Elton John, Prince Harry, et al, have lost against the Daily Mail, it just feels obscene that such an awful rag should win so much money. #dailymail #privacy

At least we know where Trump's allegiances lie, following his support for North Korea and complaining about the UK supplying drones to Ukraine. Presumably because he admires autocratic leadership and aspires towards it for himself. #trump #ukraine #maga

During COVID I developed a sort of nostalgia every time I watched a film with a scene in a crowded bar. I'm now getting the same sort of feeling when watching anything when it's raining. #drought #heatwave

Fairly pleased with my first attempt at an #eclipse time lapse. From a park in Enfield, North London. We had some eclipse glasses and they were very popular - we had tears, praying and kids who didn't want to give them back..

Every single second, the world hands $6,000 to the fossil fuel industry in subsidies.

That’s $5 TRILLION every year.

Renewables? Barely a fraction of that.

We are literally paying to cook our own planet.

When does this madness stop? 🌍💸

This half time show is a bit shit isn't it? Also, that BTS bit sounded exactly the same as just about any other modern pop song, though I admit I'd never knowingly heard them before and I'm not in the target audience.

And stop putting sugar in fruit juice. You can eat an orange without putting sugar on it, why is it only the fancy fruit juice that doesn't have sugar in it?
It would be awesome if the "light" beverages were just light on sugar and not full of artificial sweeteners.

I'd like half-sweet drinks please.
