Missed this story from last year. Free speech is great, and deplatforming is probably too draconian. But I think something in between where influencers can face consequences for dishing out bullshit, unsubstantiated advice and can’t hide behind “do your own research” is probably not the worst idea

I get there’s a lot of reasons to be suspicious of the motives of “the other side” right now. But it’s just another way we’re being manipulated. The more we hate and distrust each other, the more we tear ourselves apart. I know unity and community sounds trite, but how else do we get through?
Americans do not hate each other by accident. Politicians, media outlets, and online influencers have learned that fear and outrage attract votes, money, clicks, and attention. Every disagreement is inflated into a national emergency, while opponents are portrayed as stupid, evil, or dangerous.
